and here I was thinking the British people had been deprived of
Mexican food all these years. Poor Ophelia, she has never been to a
place in the British Isles with a Taco Bell.

This particular post references an article by Stew Webb, a contributor

In his life-time, George H. W. Bush (GHWB) has controlled every
clandestine (hidden from view) and secret organization/operation within
the arsenal of the United States government as either 1) Director of the
CIA, 2) Vice President to Ronald Reagan (who was an unwitting puppet to
the Bush controlled cabal – GHWB secretly gave Reagan poisons that
hastened his fall into Alzheimer’s Disease and evidence suggests he
helped plan Reagan’ attempted assassination by John Hinckley, whose

ultimately as President of the United States before Bill Clinton took
office.

So true, but the flag-waving components that typify a cuisine (from the
vantage of the outsider) do seem to dominate perspective.

That said, when I think of sauerkraut, sausages and potatoes, I think
of Colmar and Strasbourg in Alsace! Which, for the past few years, has
been French!

Not all French food is coq au vin!

Taco Bell is to Mexican food as Ball Park Franks are to German
sausage.

I have seen dried packets of Mexican food in the supermarkets, but never a
Taco Bell.

You aren't missing anything. One thing they did was put Mexican food
on the map for us non-Mexicans. People's palates matured, but Taco
Bell either remained the same or cheapened. I liked it at first
(truth be told, I liked their "hot" sauce more than the taco itself +
it was teenager cheap food) and then took a hiatus of a couple decade
- when I tried it again... phooey! I must say I did like their
"Mexican Pizza" back when it was first introduced, but that's another
thing I haven't tried in ages and looking at current images, I doubt
I'd like it today.

I don't buy any of those 'ready prepared' processed packets of stuff which
is why they hardly register.

As I said, I don't like any fast food places and I very much doubt it Taco
Bell would be any different.

The appeal when I was a kid was that it was cheap. Back then we didn't know
what they put in the food. It appears to be wholesome but if you look at
the ingredients, it is not. I do like the taste of the bean burrito but I
can make one at home that is just as tasty and is wholesome.

From my travels, I always thought a basic burrito had beef and potatoes.
The best was one with large beef chunks, potatoes, and gravy, very spicy. I
think I had one taco in Mexico. The only other food I ate, was a little sub
like sandwich with basic lettuce, tomato, meats, delicious. I don't know
real mexican food, except I don't like finley chopped meat, and I don't
think ground meat is very Mexican. Just went Mexican sat night, had my
first Carta Blanca after 45 years. I don't remember it tasting that good.

Potatoes are actually pretty common in Latin cuisine. But not too many
Mexican restaurants in the US serve potatoes unless they have American
dishes on the menu as well such as a burger. I think perhaps they are more
common to Spanish cuisine.
