For years, I would store them in a small brown paper bag, but, recently lacking one, I stashed 'em in a Rubbermaid. They lasted for many days, and not one did I have to toss.

Why not leave them out on the counter and let them air dry? That's what I do and they last indefinitely. http://www.richardfisher.com |

I assume if that extends life from picking to purchase, it might work a home, too. I would make sure any you cover this way be free of obvious moisture such as water or raindrops. |

They start to shrivel fairly soon, maybe about three days, but they can still be used directly. I find they get fully dried in about ten days. http://www.richardfisher.com |

They're a staple around here. Some go into a salad, some on a pizza etc. Same with me. I use a lot of fresh mushrooms, so they're always in the refrigerator and it's very rare that they go past their prime. I don't like side salad with "stuff" in it, so I don't do that. I get all the variety I want in mine by using fancy lettuce mixes and different dressings. -- sf |

I use two paper bags because mushrooms are very moist, and their moisture will soak a single layer of paper bad, but not both of a double layer. John Kuthe... |

I like em thick on my pizza. Plus, the presliced ones always look a bit gone by. I have never really price compared, as my market seems to like to hide the prices on 'rooms. It's one of those items I just grab and pay for. So far, I haven't been socked with any price too exorbitant. |
