I've only owned two rice makers in my life... they aren't used as much as Carol's but they were used almost daily at one point. The first one still worked but was old, so I replaced it. The second one still works but is old and I don't need such a large size these days. 6 cups is more than we'd need at any one time now, so I'd like to get rid of the big one and get myself a smaller one. I don't need a rice cooker to do anything other than cook and hold the rice. Something like this will work for me... and hey, it's red! http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B001KBY9M...ZTOD01V1&psc=1 -- Elitist Snob |

You need to be feeding 8 people at the least for them to make sense. That does happen in extended families but doesnt really fit many of us now. This simple unit above is inexpensive, works well to smaller amounts, and is more versatile since you can steam a second item above. Saw the pic (um, going brain dead on name of poster but was the remainder of a panko meat with some potatos and pickle), well the potatoes would have done lovely in the top steamer as a rice batch cooked. Ours is doing a first batch of short grain rice for sticky rice balls. In the top I am softening some dehydrated figs. I plan to make an apple and fig pie later (I like that mix, sue me!). -- |

I still like the idea of the fuzzy logic, and getting the rice done fluffy, sticky or hard-crispy. Also the congee. The Zojirushi water boiler we got is a delight, and one of the reasons I continue to consier their rice maker. Clearly the current one-switch panasonic is going to live another 15 years at the very least. > This simple unit above is inexpensive, works well to smaller amounts, > and is more versatile since you can steam a second item above. > > Saw the pic (um, going brain dead on name of poster but was the > remainder of a panko meat with some potatos and pickle), well the > potatoes would have done lovely in the top steamer as a rice batch > cooked. > > Ours is doing a first batch of short grain rice for sticky rice balls. > In the top I am softening some dehydrated figs. > > I plan to make an apple and fig pie later (I like that mix, sue me!). |
