The American ideal of free speech pertains to government restriction on speech. It doesn't mean that we have to listen to everything that comes out of your piehole. Cindy Hamilton |

> Cuba is not too bad, You idiotic socialist ****! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Censorship_in_Cuba Censorship in Cuba is the most intense in the western hemisphere. It has been reported on extensively and resulted in European Union sanctions from 2003 to 2008 as well as statements of protest from groups, governments, and noted individuals.[1][2] Cuba has ranked low on the Press Freedom Index from Reporters Without Borders from 2002 when the index was established (134th out of 139)[3] to the present (167th out of 179 in 2011-2012).[4] In 2006 the Inter American Press Association reported that "repression against independent journalists, mistreatment of jailed reporters, and very strict government surveillance limiting the people’s access to alternative sources of information are continuing".[5] Books, newspapers, radio channels, television channels, movies and music are heavily censored. Clandestine printing is also highly restricted.[6] The special permits that are required to use the Internet are only available to selected Cubans and use of the Internet is limited for the vast majority of Cubans.[7] Mobile phones are quite rare, with most citizens not having been allowed to use them until quite recently.[8] Foreign journalists who can work in the country are selected by the government.[9] Media is operated under the supervision of the Communist Party's Department of Revolutionary Orientation, which "develops and coordinates propaganda strategies".[9] |

Any comments criticizing the government are often vilified and labeled as anti-American. In addition, any reference criticizing internal security can result in summary detention without due process. This gets even worse if one isn't Caucasian. >> >> Well helpful person, perhaps you should go to Cuba and see what free >> speech gets you...better yet...try North Korea >> >> >> William > >Thanks for proving my point. It's amazing that that mentality still exists. Where's the logic in comparing your own country with the worst countries, instead of all the other countries out there? |

Offhand, I can't think of any western democracy that had anything >like McCarthy's witch hunt on unAmerican activities. If you dispassionately compare all first-world (and even some 2nd and 3rd world nations), the U.S has more in common with oppressive Islamic nations than most others. By that I'm alluding to religious extremism, incarceration rates and restrictions on true freedom of speech. Then there are things like TSA, and the general thin-skinned over the top reaction to any form of criticism. You just don't see that in many other countries. |

Some Americans consider themselves to be free because they can buy coastal properties and own the beach. I consider myself to be somewhat more free because I can walk along the shore of our oceans, lakes and rivers because people can only own the property up to the high water mark. Freedom of speech? There are a number of Canadian produced TV shows that have been picked up by American networks but they are heavily censored. One show in particular is The Trailer Park Boys. When it is aired by a Canadian broadcaster it is rife with F bombs, but when it is aired by an American broadcaster it is beep..... beep.... beep. |

I came across that show some years after it first aired. I actually don't mind it, it might be crude and crass in some ways, but also funny and in other ways, not too far removed from reality (for some). |

Maybe but you need full headers. What i see is some fake messages with the seeimg email address of a valid member, but posted by another. One came out from the spammer set, using Sheldon's seeming name and email but the IP was tracked to Canada. Sheldon does not live in Canada. What I am warning of if that you can no longer automatically 'ban' because the nasty little kids rubbing their puds and thinking they are superior, are now using real folks addresses to spoof messages any one of us would ban if you domt read the headers. Your mail client may not know the difference and ban the real person (who never sent those messages). Carol -- |
