I'm glad for that and I didn't know it had changed. I remember back when
I first joined friends in my list would "like" or respond to something I
posted there. It freaked me out. lol

I always laugh when I see married couples posting to each other on
Facebook. It seems weird to me.

OK if one is at work and the other home, but if they are on opposite
ends of the sofa . . .

Yes, pretty much my experience as well. My relatives & friends are very
prolific posters and I have a battle even keeping up with their posts.
So I don't bother.

If you are happy with it

I was encourage by a poster here to join. Once was enough and I never went
back. The family have stopped trying now. D was persuaded to get onto
Granddaughters thingy to look at pics but that is all. He never posts.

I just treasure emails and real letters)

For those family members who are not close, it is a good way to keep
abreast of family news. We have seen a couple posts about the birth of
children. It saves us buy a card and present. If we are only informed of
news like that through FB we simply click on Like.

FB keeps making annoying changes. Over the last couple days I have been
getting posts about friends of friends changing their profile pictures.
I have no reason why, but it may be time to explore account settings
to see what has been added to that to expose me to more unwanted stuff.

Many years ago, we used to be in the same room on computers posting to a
politics chat room, it was great fun.

Years and years ago I bought my parents walkie talkies for just that
purpose. Way before smartphones, and neither would use a phone where you
could text anyway. They even used to walkies on a cruise one time when
they weren't together but wanted to know where each other were.

I got up to 80 or 90 before I decided to call time on it. The cost
wasn't the issue so much as the absolute chore it became filling out
each individual card and envelope.

I send a few a year. Used to be a couple a month to a friend, but that
is now email. I only write a half dozen checks a year too. Taxes and
water bill are about the only checks left.

We get real letters from Granddaughter in Hong Kong because she says she
gets so frustrated with the computers because they are so slow. I love to
get them and keep them all)

I need to make the most of them because she will be home in February

I send very few cards but then I have very few relatives. Before GD went
away, I made up Birthday and Christmas cards containing money gifts to last
till she came home, so she took them with her.

My Christmas card list keeps shrinking. So many people have died. And then
some stop sending cards. E-cards were big for a while. Thankfully that
trend has died out because I would rather not get those. It was fun when it
first started though. I used to mail out over 100 and that did not count
the ones that I gave out at work. Now I am down to about 60 that I mail
out.

I love it! I can get nearly instant information and updates on friends and
family. I was able to find a handyman who charged far less than the others
I've found and I got some kids to come clean up dropped fruit when my
gardener broke his leg. I also made a little girl very happy. Angela kept
forgetting to put the sewing machine that I bought her but that she never
used, out with the give aways. I was annoyed because once again, they had
picked up but the machine was in her room. I just happened to see a post
from a dad looking for a machine for his two girls. Turns out that he lived
just down the street. He came right over with his one daughter. The other
was out shopping with her mom. Brand new Hello Kitty machine. Also a book
and some patterns. Hopefully those girls will use it! Facebook is great!

Letters you get from GD? (aka Grenada)

I think it depends on why the group was created as or went to
"secret". I don't think bridesmaids would want a bunch of strangers
butting in on bachelorette party planning.

They're banking on you using the cloud for everything... and they're
making it very tempting.

Some people still use pen & paper and put a stamp on an envelope.
Others have moved on to more modern forms of communication.

There was a major scandal earlier this year when comments from a
FaceBook page for dentistry students were publicized. It seems the frat
boy mentality was alive and well in the department. Everyone who was a
member of the group was tarred with the same brush and there were some
serious consequences.
