I was in my local bakery coffee shop this morning for my daily fix of
great coffee. It was a cool, windy morning. There were some bicyclists
sitting outside. One of them came in and asked the girl if she had a
jacket or sweater she could borrow because it was too cool for her to
sit out there. She looked really disappointed, almost pouting. I got
the impression that she actually expected one of the staff to loan her a
jacket to cover her biking sweaty body so she could sit out in the cold
instead of sitting at one of the vacant tables inside.

Especially with interfering busy-bodies who push themselves into others conversations
and assume the role of intervener or censor.

I'm old but not that old... I would have gladly offered my coat, and
helped her peel off that wet tee shirt and bra, I would'nt want her
biking sweaty boobies getting chilled making her nipples get all hard
and painful... oh no, this thoughtful old guy wouldn't want her to
suffer like that!

I am with your (presumed) attitude of annoyance in this...even though she
didn't ask you for help, you certainly have the right to an opinion....it is all
part of the feeling of entitlement that many in younger generations seem to
feel is appropriate, along with a demonstration of a total lack of common sense.
There is not much you can do about it.

I guess I was annoyed. The owner and the staff are friends. I was really
surprised to hear her ask. I mean.... it was a cool morning and windy,
and she was wearing a short sleeved bicycling get up. I was surprised to
hear her ask if they had a jacket or sweater that she could borrow. What
really got me was her reaction when told then did not. I didn't know if
she expected that the shop should have jackets or sweaters lying around
for people who don't know how to dress for weather, or if she expected
that one of the staff should have offered to loan her their own outer
garments. Bear in mind the woman had been out cycling and was likely at
least a little sweaty.

It;s a discussion group and folks like to chat here. Unlike your
utterly stupid autoposting habits that waste EVERYONES time when Steve
posts.

You do know the only folks by now who even see you are the few who just

Females learn to play the "helpless female" early in their lives, an
option not available to males in this sick twisted culture we have in
the United States.

I have never "autoposted", but I will note you seem very much in his corner.

Why is that?

Do you approve of him stalking sf and posting her personal data here?

If so...why?

You Do know that you have been exposed as an enabler of a criminal

Oh so you manually copy the same text to reply to every post someone
else here does? Interesting! You must have a lot of time on your hands
if so.

Steve is a normal person. SF is as well. There are MORONS (probably
just one) making up crap about both of them.

You are one of them. When you are normal, I will talk with you.

I'm not a "Groupkilla", period.

You are confused, and I have no reasonable explanation for why that is.

I used to admire cyclists unreservedly, but too many these days are
arrogant twits with an overdeveloped sense of entitlement.
See, for example, "Critical Mass."

That's not my idea of a pain-in-the-ass customer. Mostly that would be an arrogant son-of-a-bitch boomer-gen dickhead complaining about the service or the prices and hassling the guys trying to do their job. For more information on this just read some that the incredible shit that goes down from the posters on this newsgroup. How the heck is someone asking for some help and cooperation a pain-in-the-ass?

My guess is gen X/Y will change our society into one that supports and cooperates with each other. I don't consider that to be a bad thing. Their social networks and friends will be of paramount importance to them. Sure, they carry a sense of entitlement about them but that's the way we raised them. Baby-boomers labeling the younger generation as having a bad attitude of entitlement is fairly ironic. And the beat goes on...

Do you even know any women? There are all types.

Incidentally, if you don't like the culture in the United States,
perhaps you should go find one more to your taste.

Culture is not your friend, Cindy, unless you totally drank the
Koolaid as they say, and it looks like you have.

And you are more correct if you thought I was talking abiout all
females. Just some/many/etc. learn to play the helpless female, but it
is a gender specific trait for the most part, although I have a
whitewater kayaking male friend who plays the "Help me, I'm helpless"
game quite well, and he blames it on the fact that he's Jewish, which
I think he's learned is not something it's currently politically
correct to call him on!

I think many of the younger males in this country act the same. Alas, we
are a nation of pussies.

The endorphin high of bicycling can be a contributing factor too!!
Makes one feel like a superman or woman! High mindless confidence!!

She was probably miffed that the males she was with were not falling for her
"take care of me" schmaltz.

I was looking at it from the perspective of the staff who are exposed to
these types of requests.

She wasn't exactly looking for help. She was looking for a sweater or
jacket to wear. There were at least four empty tables inside, but this
woman who had gone out cycling on a cool, windy day wearing a light
weight short sleeved top wanted to sit outside. I am trying to figure
out why on earth she would expect one of the staff to loan her a jacket.

I'm with you, Dave. She was stupid to go out exercising without a
coverup if she had planned to stop somewhere on the way home. You get
sweaty and if you stop, you will get chilled. She just needed to get
back on her bike and start cycling again...bring her body heat back
up. She will learn from this though and probably won't make the
mistake again.

The "LAW Bikers" really annoy me here. "Lance Armstrong Wannabee's"
They put on all the official biking clothes, the coolest helmet, and
have a $1000+ bicycle. They ride on the roads (as they are allowed to)
but so many ignore all the driving rules. They go right through red
lights, etc. I hate them all. They are a serious menace to our roads.

She could have just moved inside, which is what they did when she
realized no one was willing to let her wrap their clean clothes around
her sweaty body.

We have more than our share of them around here. There are bicycle
raises held around here so they come out in packs to practice. The ride
2-3 across in groups of 12 or more, will not move to the right to let
cars go by, rarely even slow down for stop signs. These people are all
adults and presumably licensed drivers who should know better.
There is a bicycle trail along the parkway, but these guys right on the
road instead of the much safer trail.

Worst case I saw was when driving through High Park in Toronto. My son
was at the wheel and moving with the traffic. Some cyclist all decked
out when flying by on the right yelling and screaming at us. Turned out
we were speeding.... thanks to a ridiculously low speed limit. I guess
the self righteous didn't realize the speed limit applies to bikes as
well as cars. As he sped off he blew through a stop sign at full speed.

Nice straw mean, you two dating?

Partial credit, this is an insane asylum, not a valid cross-section.

pain-in-the-ass?

"Cooperation"?

A novel take.

Oh, what about their entitlement mentality?

Iow, hive mentality, the inability to think freely for themselves.

Sad but also true.

> Baby-boomers labeling the younger generation as having a bad attitude of entitlement is fairly ironic.

A tad, but facts is facts

And the beat goes on...

The death knell of democracy and capitalism, yes.
