Default New Restaurant in town

When I was driving through town this morning I saw that there is a
Vietnamese restaurant opening up. I will be sure to try it out. I
usually like Asian cooking. I especially like Thai food. I had my first
taste of Vietnamese food less than a year ago and I have to confess that
I was really disappointed. I hope this one is better.

It is a small town. A Thai restaurant opened here about two years ago.
We joke that it is the best Thai restaurant in town because it isn't
very good.

I am not crazy about Vietnamese food. I ordered beef and lemongrass,
and received a plate of beef and lemongrass. Vegetables came in
their own dishes. I would suggest going with a group so you could
mix and match dishes to get a balanced meal.

On the other hand, a bowl of pho is good when it's chilly out.
A bowl of flavorful beef broth, hearty noodles, sliced cuts of beef,
with Vietnamese greens, bean sprouts, sliced chiles, and lemon
or lime wedges on the side.

In my experience it is just slop with cilantro! Healthy, perhaps, but
still slop.

You wouldn't know quality Asian cuisine if it slapped you in your
uneducated palette.

On the subject of Thai food, we have a restaurant, maybe its a chain I'm
not sure, but we had a birthday/grad celebration there with a big group
last year. The food was pretty good though I'm limited in what I'll try
if it is going to be spicy. I like the kitty statues that greet you ask
you walk in. And I especially liked all of the crispy vegetables
served with the meal.

I just hope they are better than the spring rolls at the other place
that left a less than favourable impression of Vietnamese food.

There's not much bad they can do to a Vietnamese Spring Roll other
than fry them.

They can fry them badly, in bad oil. I've had some very greasy,
whiffy spring rolls.

Okay. This was was fried, and the meat filling was quite pungent.

Try the fresh (not fried) shrimp filled one that is wrapped with
softened rice paper. Fried is too much like a Chinese egg roll for
me.

For the record, I never once even considered sleeping with you. And
you know that. You're the one who somehow got the idea that I was
going to move in with you - and you posted that to RFC just out of the
total blue.

After having met you twice at casual austin.food gatherings 2 or 3
years ago and not giving you any indication that there was any sort of
romantic interest in the least, you somehow twisted that into MY
MOVING IN WITH YOU?

That was just way too Psycho for me. I sat there at stared at the
screen for at least 15 minutes wondering, WTF? That was just way too
spooky. I've met weird, semi-psycho women before but you win, hands
down. Mapi of austin.general still holds the male title, but at least
he announced his psychosis right there lying on the floor of the bar
at B.D. Reilly's rather than romantically obsessing over me for 2
years.

Needless to say, you need to come to terms with what happened and why
your mind works that way and stop making up excuses for your fixation
and disappointment before we become the next Yoli and Michael. I'd
prefer you use a sniper rifle on me from a few hundred yards away.
There you go - a reason for you to buy yet another gun and ammo.

And Jeremy, I was just tired of your decade of bullshit and visions of
grandeur about all these things you're "working on" or have not done
in the past. Even posting a call for meetings with imaginary people
about imaginary projects of yours at "the normal time and place", as
if you are somebody important with a life. I'm pretty sure you're
manic depressive mixed with habitual liar.

Sorry I don't fit either of your Ideal Psycho Pal Profiles.

I don't much care for that cuisine... about the only thing Vietnamese
women are good for is giving mani/pedicures, and happy long time! LOL

I've got a good recipe somewhere (not shrimp though). I would love to
hear more recipes. I love those things and to someone....no they are
NOT like egg rolls. Nothing like egg rolls. I love spring rolls fried.
I can't imagine them raw or boiled or baked.

Send her here. I will gladly sample her spring rolls. I have certainly
not ruled out giving Vietnamese food another try. It is just that my
only experience with it was not great. I am hoping the place that is
opening in town will be a lot better.

Grin, when I visit friends, I often get roped into showing them how to
make lumpia.

Making fresh lumpia is actually cheap and easy. Fat ones inbetween the
size of a thin burrito and a cigar can be make 25 at a time for pretty
much the cost of ground pork (at home, we use our own grinder). Stores
charge 1$ each for the really small ones. Make your own for whatever
the cost of 2.5-3lbs ground pork is where you are and add 3-5$ for
wrapper, carrot, and a few other things.

Generally if you can't find a pork butt at 1.59lb to grind, you
probably live out in the boonies. Sales prices can be .99lb or less
here. Ground up for you, should be less than $1.89 per lb.
