Makes for good TV I guess. I wonder if he is really like that in a
normal work environment.

I just love lace cookies, but what I thought made them brandy
snaps was them being rolled up and filled that had brandy
cream stuff.

Hmm, this is my kind of lace cookie:

From what I have seen, the setup is just like the British Baking
Show, down to Mary Berry, except the contestants are Americans.

Have you tried Costco and Trader Joe's (smaller) version? They're
flat and the bottom is dipped in dark chocolate. Yum!

Occasionally, they will have celebrities competing for a charity
of their choice. The $10,000 prize goes to the charity.

There's a lot of that too. I don't think it's about adding drama
though. More like they are playing the sympathy card hoping that
it will sway the judges decisions.

I agree with you, Nancy!
Isn't fun how I can quote you exactly and completly change your
meaning? ;-D

Whenever I generalize like that, it's always said with "tongue in
cheek." I'll bet President Trump would deport Aaron Sanchez back to
Mexico where he belongs, the smug looking *******. lol And Alex G. was
the first one eliminated on a Chopped show where the regular judges
were competing.

Really though, the only "judge" on Chopped that I do resent is the
Italian Super Chef - Scott Conant. He absolutely hates raw onions.
Include undercooked onions on that show and you will be chopped.
I think raw onions have their place sometimes.

It's an entertaining show. I watch it when there is nothing else
on worth watching.

I'll have to look! Costco used to have lace cookies every so
often but I haven't seen them in a few years. I will peruse the
fancy cookies aisle next time. I'll check Trader Joe's, too, I was
just there last week but I didn't look for those. Thanks!

I could just make my own, of course. I suppose.

Nancy, you are probably right about the filling being the
brandy component. I would rather fill them with an almond
cream.

They do really need better bakers on the US show. The worst of the
Brit competitors were better than the best (so far) on the US show.
Heck, I have had amateur baker co-workers who were better. Back
in the day, any mom could do a better gingerbread house than these
guys. It was practically a requirement for moms to know how and to
do it well.

Maybe this first competition was a poor representative...we'll see.

I did get a laugh when that first lady said she was making some
hospital and the judge told her I walk past there every day, I
know every detail. She gave him such a look.

Meanwhile, in the end, her windows didn't line up, unless you
count windows going down in an angle as lining up. Seriously?
Doesn't take longer to line up windows than to put them crooked.
They were just stuck on chocolate slabs.

I'll watch another episode. I'm definitely going to watch the
British series one of these days.

The F-Word wasn't bad either.
The UK Restaurant Nightmares was also MUCH better than the US Faux
version where it ran to a highly dramatic formula. The owner always
resisted change but in the last 10 minutes finally saw the light,
especially when given a truckload of new equipment for the kitchen on
top of the redecoration of the restaurant.
His behaviour on the US shows was obviously demanded by the Fox Network.

Heh. If I waited until I made my own, I wouldn't know what they
tasted like.
