OK. So to summarise your posts above, you think that the DD card
holder is paying the bank for every DD transaction directly out of their
checking account.

You're still wrong.

She has to be pretty thick not to understand the only money out of my
account is the money I am paying for something, not a 'payment to the
bank' -

We also don't have a will, everything is jointly owned or each
other is the beneficiary. I'm not saying that's ideal but that's
how it is.

This flipped out my sil, so I explained why I wasn't worried, and
she said What if you both die in a crash? I said You and my brothers
get to fight it out. I know, not a nice way to leave things.

I just finished going through the process of getting my mother's
estate into a trust. It was a lot of work but eventually it will be
time well spent. No hassle settlement later.

Here's what you did when you went all over the Usenet impersonating the

net against her will, including her:

* home address
* age
* cell phone number
* husband's name

etc.

YOU did that, you evil *******!

She should call the cops. I've already publicly admitted it is me so

So what's stopping her? I think she suffers from Bovism - she just
loves the attention and drama and screw the rest of the group.

I'd prefer you use a sniper rifle on me from a few hundred yards away.
There you go - a reason for you to buy yet another gun and ammo.

Yep, my father did that years ago, to avoid probate court completely. Smart move, but you have to be aware of it and do it!! And my father did! Also, you have to make the trust include only people truly trustworthy!!

If you mean those commercially made cupcakes then I think they should be
renamed: "Sugar delivery modules."

Yep, my father did that years ago, to avoid probate court completely. Smart move, but you have to be aware of it and do it!! And my father did! Also, you have to make the trust include only people truly trustworthy!!

She's still the trustee of all her 'stuff' but I do have the keys
to the kingdom, so to speak, as I have power of attorney. Something
that would change pronto if I tried to pull some kind of stunt.

I imagine whichever of us survives the other will make a will.

In Michigan, if you die intestate, your stuff goes automatically to
family members (there's a hierarchy), and our stuff is considered
to be owned 50/50 by each of us. So if we died simultaneously
without a will, my half would go to my mother, and his half would
be allocated among his father and/or brothers. It'd be unpleasant
for whoever ended up cleaning up the estate.

What struck me as odd, upthread, was the Scottish law that says
you can't cut your children out of your estate. My mother,
for example, could will all of her stuff to Donald Trump and
the law wouldn't care. (Not that she would, of course.)

Actually, it might be nice to call Trump's "people" and say, "Come
and get it. Sell her crummy little house and junk all of her
clothes. At least I won't have to deal with it."

It may be odd but it is indeed the law here in Scotland. The children must
have one third (between them) of moveable assets. There was talk of
stopping this 'Bairn's Share' law but I haven't heard anything about it for
a long time.

This is only in Scotland but there was a recent case in England, where a
mother had decreed that nothing was to be left for the daughter when she
died and a judge overruled it!!
Disgraceful!!!

Leave it to a charity. I am sure they will sort all that.

That's how I feel about it.

I put a list in my fire safe where I keep my documents listing
where our assets can be found. If it's organized it should be
easier on whoever has to do it.

Yeah, I can only guess at the reasoning behind such a law but I'd
rather decide who gets everything or nothing, depending on my
personal circumstances.

That would be good for a laugh. I think you can decline an
inheritance but it's funny to picture that.

True, but that is a tiny part of the fraud that goes on. I think they
will eventually go to a pin for additional protection with lost or
stolen cards. Your swipe crd can be duplicated easily, chip cards not
so much.

Exactly. Some goods in tourist areas can be had for 50%. I've even had
restaurants round down the check for cash.

Not sure where you get that from. Yes, I pamper my wife but I've done a
lot for women to get ahead. I've hired women for jobs previously only
held by men and paid them equally. I also encourage my daughter and
granddaughters to take a stand where needed.

We jointly feel that if you have children you should take full
responsibility to raise them. That means one spouse stays home. yes,
that may be very 1950s but it was our choice to put family ahead of
additional income. IMO, old fashioned is still good.

There may be some cases where two incomes are needed, but if mom is
working so you can have a Volvo instead of a Chevy you are short
changing your kids.

Most of the ones I've seen have a big gob of sugar on the top and sell
for up to $3. Could be a decent snack if you cut the icing by 95% and
sold it for 75 cents.

My favorite pound cake has no icing and has a nice crust on top. Good
buttery flavor.

Many companies no longer offer the traditional pension and it has been
replaced by the 401k plan. The employee has some control over how it is
invested. Usually, both employee and employer contribute and if you
change jobs you take it with you.
