I like some chicken with leeks in a soup. Did some today, leeks,
chicken, pearl barley. Tasted good to me, it did lunch and have two
more lunch servings in the freezer now.

I like a bit of meat in my soups, too. Makes them
quite hearty and satisfying.

You're talking to meat eaters. If it doesn't contain a bit of
corpse, it's not food.

Sounds good. IMNSHO, soup doesn't need meat, although a vegetable
soup made with chicken and/or beef broth can be delicious.

Bull shit, dwarf... soups don't require meat.

>nope! all it needed was a bit of cream, just like the recipe says

A vegetarian soup can contain mushrooms rather than meat. There are
infinite vegetarian soups that are hearty. I often make mushroom
barley soup with no meat, I use an assortment of dehy 'shrooms and
they have fantastic flavor and actually have a meaty texture... a soup
of asparagus, mushrooms, and tofu can be hearty too. Wild rice soups
need no meat. I prepare an oriental style vegetarian soup at least
once a week, with many veggies, potent seasonings, and well thickened
with corn starch it's very hearty and filling. Soups don't need to
contain animal protein. I very often make egg drop soups but I
suppose eggs are animal protein. Even minestrone with no meat but
with beans and pasta is very hearty. This is a very hearty flavorful
soup that contains no meat and if I omitted the egg it wouldn't be
missed, it contains mushrooms, celery, onions, garlic, bok choy, and
carrots, it's highly seasoned with soy sauce, fresh ginger, fresh
milled white pepper, and toasted sesame seed oil... so thick a spoon
stands up... add a good pinch of MSG and people will swear it's meat
stock:
http://i67.tinypic.com/atnj9h.jpg
One of my favorite soups is a compote of mixed dried fruit with wine,
citrus, and cinnamon, very satisfying hot or cold.

So you'd put a dead animal in your soup and not even name the soup after
it? That's weird.

Um, did you at least saute the vegetables first? With just water and
salt it sounds terribly bland.

I've said for years, would you rather have a steaming bowl of Grandma's chicken soup, or drink the water in which a dead chicken carcass was boiled?

Same thing, just how it's put/said!!

Oh puleeze. My question is were the vegetables at least sauteed before
simply being dumped in a pot of water with salt?

Now we find it's finished off with a bit of cream. I still have not
seen a link to the recipe. Um... but still no seasonings?

Do vegetarians have an objection to pepper? Herbs or other spices? I
don't care about using chicken. As posted it sounds like an incredibly
boring soup.

The water doesn't contribute to the flavour, whereas the meat
contributes a lot, probably the most.

....but not Vegan, fool:

http://vegetarian.about.com/od/glossary/g/Vegan.htm

Veganism is a type of vegetarian diet that excludes meat, eggs, dairy
products and all other animal-derived ingredients. Many vegans also do
not eat foods that are processed using animal products, such as refined
white sugar and some wines.

I agree. Not a meal in itself. An appetizer - yes.
For a meal, I'd at least have to have a sandwich along with soup.

I've made potato/leek soup a few times and a few different recipes.
It's fine without meat. It's surprisingly very good.

Then yoose must make some fercocktah pish vasser soups... a bouillion
cube in a cup of tepid water. ALL the soups I cook are indeed a meal,
a meal fit or a king. I've never seen any of your soups, no one has,
all yoose do is flap your gums about soup and then open a can.
Here's my bean ham hock soup, guaranteed it's a meal.

I disagree. Today for lunch it'll be a bowl of lentil soup
and a big glass of ice water.

Sheldon...you are so full of crystal palace crap. I've sent many
pictures of my soups in the past but your mind goes blank. Every few
months you say I've never sent any pics. lol

If the 5 gallons of soup you always cook is a full meal, why are you
also cooking about 200lbs of meat each month. You sir are definitely
eating way more than just soup. Bite me.

PS - Don't ever call me either. I won't answer.

With a hearty soup, I at least need a couple of slices of bread and
butter. Soup only, no matter what kind, would leave me wanting more
than just that.
