Default Help! What did I buy? And what do I do with it?

I thought I had plenty of food here but my fridge went all Mother Hubbard on
me while in the hospital. It did not help that we had a visitor over who
has the appetite of a 12 year old boy! And I am just not up to grocery
shopping. Plus my asking someone to go get things for me fell on deaf ears.
So I place an order at Safeway for delivery. I decided that I wanted steak
so I put in the search term and saw what I thought was a small steak,
marinated in garlic. I ordered three. They arrived. They are huge and I
am not sure they are steak! I also know that had I seen them in the store
or worse yet read the package, I never would have bought them. But now I
have three and it seems they should be grilled. I have no grill. This is
what they a

http://shop.safeway.com/ecom/search?...Info_188010013

It does say something on the package about making them in the oven which I
will have to do, but... Is anyone here familiar with such meat? I am
hoping that Angela can read the directions because I can't. The tiny print
and the color of the print made me give up. I could only make out oven and
375 degrees.

Thanks!

Crap. Let me see if I can find it elsewhere. You might have to be logged in
to view it.

Might be this:

http://www.samsclub.com/sams/roasted...prod5260040.ip

It's this but no pic.

http://www.myfitnesspal.com/food/cal...illet-43726922

Might actually be a filet of beef like a roast?

I think that I would have stocked up on READY-TO-EAT stuff like TV dinners, various meat pies, and such that could be micro-waved. Even canned stews, as yucky as they are, would do in a pinch. If those other two don't want to participate them tell to shape up or bloody well starve.

Don't you know by now they won't help and have no intention of fending

Thanks for that. A petit beef filet is a steak.

I have no idea what it is you're going to have delivered. There are no
Safeway stores or Sams Clubs anywhere near where I shop. I do hope you
are not disappointed.

Oh, and I wouldn't cook the steaks in the oven unless you're using the
broiler Surely you've heard of pan-frying or even using a grill pan on
the stovetop?

If you aren't able to stand on your feet to do that please do put the
steaks in the freezer. Until such time as you can cook them properly.
You do NOT have to own a grill to produce nicely cooked steaks.

I'd pan fry it briefly then put it in the oven to finish. Whatever you
do, don't overcook it. It will be inedible.

The thing is, I don't think these are steaks. And I don't use the broiler.
They don't look like steaks which is why I asked. Says grill or oven, 375
degrees. And why couldn't I stand on my feet? I will not put uncooked meat
in the freezer. If I do, it will stay there until I throw it out. I've
said that time and time again. They will keep till the 22nd so I plan to
make them by then. I am just wondering what exactly I bought.

They're very large to put in a pan but I guess I could try. Thanks!

No brats here. There is a kielbasa but it's fine. I did have to throw out
half of a cucumber, some carrots, tiny orange thingies and cottage cheese.
Just bought that too. Should have checked the date on it. It was moldy.

But I didn't come here to argue about my family. I asked if anyone was
familiar with this meat.

This looks like a tenderloin that you could slice into steaks. And may
I ask why you don't want to put raw meat into the freezer. You said in
another message that you have said this "time and time again," but you
could have a great many steaks frozen and ready to go. Otherwise, it
sounds like there will be a great deal of waste because of the quantity
you described. It's the easiest thing in the world to freeze meat, then
cook it later.

I hope you are feeling well.

Think of it as a mini roast. You pan sear it and then finish in the
oven. I'd take them out at 115 degrees and let rest 10 minutes.

Filet, the tenderloin, is very lean and if overdone will be dried out.

OK, but you have been at many restaurants through the years. Send them
there, you eat what you want at home.

I thought you just wrote you are supposed to sit up but not stand on
your feet. I truly cannot keep up with the medical stuff.

That makes absolutely no sense.

I'm pretty sure no one knows exactly what you bought since the link
didn't work. You keep call it "them" but if it's not steaks sorry, no
clue based on your description.

Not in recent years. Nobody in this house likes to dine out. We only do it
because my mom refuses to eat otherwise and where we take her is not near
here.

Because we don't eat raw meat that has been in the freezer. For one thing,
I have no room for it. For another, if I put it in there, I will never take
it out to defrost it. And I hate microwave defrosting. I have had to live
in places where I was forced to freeze meat. I just plain don't like it. I
don't like to do it and I don't like the end results. Might be easy. But
easy isn't always good.

Well, sometimes people might have to do some things they really don't like
to do because someone is ill or recovering from something, so suppose you
had complications and had to stay in the hospital for a week or two, would
they eat? Of course they would. At any rate, I imagine they will survive the
current situation.

That is so patently untrue and I am always giving good advice to Julie as she lets some people walk all over her.

I'll bet it's not the best filet. Probably not bad, I mean how bad can it be? But it's not not the best. I'll bet Straub's $37.99/lb for the whole filet! Now THAT'S a good filet!! (I was looking at it while they ground me some more "ground beast"!)

Really? Why is that? Many professional cooks in restaurants begin by
searing a steak in a grill pan and then finishing it in an oven. Some do
it in reverse, cooking it in the oven and then finishing it with a sear.

I take lessons with a former restaurant chef and we've used that technique
many times. Always turns out well, at least as far as I can taste.

Nope. I never said that at all. I said I was to rest but also walk around
and remain as upright as possible.

Right. So I won't put it in there.

Oddly enough, others have told me what I bought and what to do with it.

No. It says a serving size if 4 ounces. They won't seem large once my
husband gets a hold of the cooked meat. It's just more meat than I was
expecting to get.

I do lots of meat in the oven with no problems.

One would likely stay at a friend's house and the other would probably find
someone to feed him. They might eat some of the canned food though. But
bottom line is that *I* need food and much of what I thought I would have
was gone. Plus I have had to change my diet yet again. I can not have
anything containing soy within four hours of my thyroid med so my morning
toast is out. I now will have oatmeal and I did have some. Just not a lot
of it.

and they refuse to shop for supplies for you. That really is shameful
and disgusting, Julie.

If they did that to me I wouldn't order/supply/cook any of the foods
they eat and you don't; and your daughter's allowance and car expenses
would cease until she learns some manners and respect.

I think that's because someone else posted a different link. I also
could not open the link you posted (at least, not the original one--this
thread has gotten so long that I have lost track of some of it).

She's not interested in disciplining her daughter. She wants her
to be a princess.

Well said and I do agree. The husband also needs to be fixed or kicked
out. It's a very strange situation there.

I take my thyroid medication in the middle of the night when I get up to
take a leak. or just before going to bed if it is late. That may give
you an easy 4 hour window.

It says best on an empty stomach but I don't recall a soy restriction on
mine aside from infant formula. Levothroid.

Avoid the following food products, which can make your body absorb less
levothyroxine: infant soy formula, cotton seed meal, walnuts, and
high-fiber foods.

Unbelievable. No wonder your mom insists on eating at a restaurant
when you are with her.
