Perhaps I should have phrased that better: I was listening to a lot of Mott The Hoople's music and thinking back fondly on our "good old daze" back in our old daze, when we actually used to be felicitly conversant "friends"!

All The Young Dudes was possibly Mott's lamest album!! Davis Bowie had come to them at the end of their Rock And Roll career as a band and urged them to stay together, even gave them the song "All The Young Dudes" after they turned down "Suffragette City" (which turned out to be a wildly popular Bowie song!) Mott's All The Young Dudes album had many great songs played very lacidasically, as you could tell Mott was dying! Bowie's song "Five Years" basically traces a Rock and Roll band's career from early days, rise to fame and explosive death, all in five years. Mott The Hoople was probably his model for writing that song too!

Exactly!! Like the All The Young Dudes version of what was originally called "Black Scorpio"! Slow, plodding, boring! Compared to:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsfJq0jIi24

Called the slow boring "Momma's Little Jewel" on the All The Young Dudes album!!

NO COMPARISON!!!

You haven't a ****ing CLUE!

http://ultimateclassicrock.com/mott-the-hoople-songs/

‘One of the Boys’
From: ‘All the Young Dudes’ (1972)

9. After making four albums that very few people heard, Mott the Hoople
were about ready to call it quits when red-hot Bowie stepped in as the
band’s producer, handpicked some great songs for them to cover,
encouraged their own songwriting and contributed the great ‘All the
Young Dudes’ (see No. 1 on our list of the Top 10 Mott the Hoople Songs)
to the project. It completely turned the group around. Clocking in at
close to seven minutes, ‘One of the Boys’ is the album’s longest songs
and the tightest link to their bluesy past.

8.‘Jerkin’ Crocus’
From: ‘All the Young Dudes’ (1972)

Once Bowie began steering the band in a more glam direction, Ian Hunter
quickly stepped up with his own songs, twisting the blues-rock crunch of
his previous work into showier and more stinging tunes. ‘Jerkin’ Crocus’
is one of his earliest stabs at writing in the new style and a highlight
of the ‘All the Young Dudes’ album.

1‘All the Young Dudes’
From: ‘All the Young Dudes’ (1972)

When David Bowie decided to step in and save Mott the Hoople’s dying
career, they were little more than a cult British boogie-blues band with
a few decent songs in their catalog (see No. 10 on our list of the Top
10 Mott the Hoople Songs). Then Bowie — basking in the glory of ‘Hunky
Dory’ — offered the group his newly penned ‘Suffragette City.’ They
rejected it. Then he wrote ‘All the Young Dudes’ specifically for them,
changing their course and fortunes. The song became an anthem for glam
kids everywhere, and the band suddenly found themselves showered in
glitter and global acclaim.

The singer reminds me of Steve Harley from Cockney
Rebel.

Reading someone else's opinions, eh? Very Rock and Roll of you! HA!

And true, "Jerkin' Crocus" was one of the better tracks off All The Young Dudes. But hardly comparable to the Rock and Roll intensity of Mott songs like "You Really Got Me"!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToeIDZp-7FI

Mott The Hoople was a live band too, much like Alvin Lee and Ten Years After. Wish I could have seen them live back in their heyday! Wow!! "Bust a few seats/But it's all in fun" kinda Mott action!! They were actually banned from playing some venues for fear of violence (probably part of the inspiration for their song of that same name "Violence"!)

Hmm, worked fine for me. For once someone ELSE is having an inexplicable Youtube problem!

Yeah, Cockney Rebel was another glam rock era band. I saw them opening for a show here in STL, I think for KISS, and they practically got laughed off stage!! And they had a little trampoline in their stage so Steve Harvey could jump HIGHER! Hee hee!!

Of course that was my KISS period, early high school. I got much better taste in Rock and Roll soon after! And Bryan was a part of that! Part of why I wish so he was not so messed up psychiatrically, I'm pretty sure! I miss my old Rock and Roll rebellious friend!

That seems like a bad combination. I can't imagine many people liking
both Cockney Rebel and Kiss.

Denying that you go it wrong, that's par for your course.

I was there for KISS as was everyone I think. Never heard of Cockney Rebel beforte thast show. I was 14 or not much more. I loved Alice Cooper too, and Deep Purple. I was searching for really kickass music which is why I finally basically at Bryan's intro to it discovered punk Rock! And I latched onto it with a vengeance! :-)

Bowie gave Mott The Hoople a great song, and they did great with it!!

But back to my "Black Scorpio" vs. "Momma' Little Jewel" incomparablity!! ;-)

Here's the ploddingly slow album version from All The Young Dudes, "Momma's Little Jewel":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJBkg7th2k4

And here's "Black Scorpio" the way it's SUPPOSED to be played:

Compare, contrast, etc!

Buffin died yesterday. AtYD was a great album. Momma's Little Jewel (Black
Scorpio), Jerkin' Crocus, Sea Diver (Ride on the Sun), Ralphs' guitar on All
the Young Dudes, Sucker, a great cover of Sweet Jane. ****, John, Wildlife was by far the weakest MtH album.

AND, I don't know where you came up with that bullshit about Five Years
being about a band.

"The song tells of an Earth doomed to destruction in five years and the aftermath of this knowledge. Bowie is rumored to have chosen the length of time, five years, as a result of a dream in which his deceased father told him he must never fly again and would die in five years."

It's not a lie, but it's not completely accurate. I spent relatively short
periods of time between girlfriends, so I didn't have the chance to be as
promiscuous as I'd liked to have been. Even more than I was obsessed with
sex, I was a romance addict. I listened to a lot of Bread when I was 11 and
12 years old.

While the upbeat tempo was lost, Momma's Little Jewel had better lead guitar,
way better vocals and was so much more polished. Plus, I think that the whole
illicit sex thing came through more, which made it more consistent with AtYD,
Sucker, etc.

You are just beating your Narcissistic Personality Disorder chest, in essence saying "Look at ME! I am so cool, I wrote a book!"

And of course you know everything about everything like David Bowie's inspirations. DUH! That too is a symptom of Narcissistic Personalty Disorder.
