I just ordered this ice maker and it arrived.
http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B...p age_o01_s00 Although with the two day shipping, it should have come today but Amazon listed that it would arrive tomorrow. So imagine my surprise when the UPS guy came with a big package! I didn't have to do much for set up. Mainly pull off two protective Styrofoam things on the sides, some plastic sheeting type stuff and pick off a few pieces of strapping tape inside. But the instructions weren't particularly clear. Did not tell me exactly where to put the water in so I winged it and got it right. I then was supposed to select between small or large cubes and turn it on. However, I found that I had to turn it on before I selected the size. I accidentally pushed the "L" button so... Large it is! I then walked back in here to take my thyroid pill and I heard cubes coming out. Whoa! That fast? Seems the instructions also should have told me to put the ice holding basket back in place because now I had a few cubes floating in the water. I picked them out with the enclosed ice scoop and put them in my mouth. Then I grabbed a quick shower and returned to find enough done cubes to sill my Seahawks Solo (think red beer cup size) 3/4 full of cubes! And I just now heard more cubes come out. So... I am VERY happy! Seems that the only thing that is helping to bring my voice back following the surgery, besides not using my voice of course, is ice cubes. And another person here will soon have surgery and will need lots of ice. So this was a much needed thing. Only thing that put me off of buying sooner was that the less expensive ones didn't seem to get good reviews. Frankly I would have preferred to pay $100 or less but, I had plenty of Amazon credit and this one got very good reviews. The shape of the cubes are like gumdrops but are hollow on the inside. The only bad thing is that due to the design of the plug, I was unable to locate the machine to the right side of the fridge. I have a little piece of unused counter space there and it would have been the perfect spot. I wound up having to move it to the other side of the fridge, taking up much needed counter space. Ima hafta think about this and shift a few things around. But I am still very happy. I dislike having to lug big bags of purchased ice around and then when I get it home, unless I am lucky enough to find a small bag, I have no place to put it. I don't really have room in my freezer for ice cube trays either. And no, I have no ice maker in my freezer. I just don't like those for numerous reasons. |

That is either very fast or you take really long showers. 26 pounds a day is a lot of ice. My refrigerator makes just over 10 pounds. |

Frankly if you only buy that which is made in the USA, you won't get much. The ice maker is working quite well. I was so enamored with it that I made more ice than I needed. I can seriously just make some as I need it, unless for some reason I need a large amount. The large cubes are very tender. I can bite them without fear of breaking a tooth. Once I use this all up, I will try making the small cubes. Husband was actually very impressed. |

I actually take very quick showers. And quicker than usual now because I can't wash my surgery area. Can only run water over the area. This would only make the 26 pounds if you were to keep it running constantly. I just tried making the small cubes and they appear to be larger than the large ones. Either that or I'm reading the machine wrong. But I am loving the ice! |

Our refrigerator's ice maker can't keep up with our ice usage on weekends, so every couple of weeks I buy a 7-pound bag of ice to supplement it. Cindy Hamilton |

Julie's machine re-cycles the water from the ice should it melt before harvest. Just what one needs...perpetual re-cycled ice cube water. I suppose the thrill of waiting for ice is somewhat like waiting for a hen to lay an egg...the anticipation must be exhilarating. ==== |

Another person who lives here will soon need oral surgery and will need ice for that. We may not need it all the time. I imagine that we will this summer if it is hot again. But when we don't need it, I can put it somewhere. And when we go want ice? We can have it in less than 10 minutes. It's almost instant. |

I had given the link but here it is again. http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B...p age_o01_s00 It's the size of a bread maker. Basically you lift the lid and remove the basket and scoop from the front. Pour water into the front up to the max fill line, or less if you only want a small amount of cubes. Put the basket back and shut the lid. 6-10 minutes later, your cubes will be starting. There are metal rods that rotate around. The cubes form on the rods. This is why the resulting cubes are gumdrop shaped but hollow in the middle. Now we have yet to determine two different sizes although there are two settings for sizes. I think perhaps the difference is not in the outside of the cubes but the amount of air space inside the cubes. Anyway, the resulting ice is not rock hard so you can easily chew it if you want to. The cubes drop out into the basket. The machine seems to be rather insulated so they will keep in there for a while, but if you don't take them out, they will just eventually melt and be made into more cubes. You can make cubes as needed. Or if you are going to need more, you can do like I did and put them in a plastic bag in the freezer. I realize now that this wasn't really necessary but I was having such fun watching them be made. The cats liked to watch them too although Jetta gets frightened when they drop off of the rods into the basket. The problem I was having with the cubes I made in my freezer were that they were really quite hard, and also the shape/size. Yes, I know you can get different trays. I have the mini and also the standard. I really only have room for one tray of standard but the resulting cubes were too large and hard to fit in my mouth comfortably. And trying to crush them is a pain. I can get two mini trays in there but it takes around 3 hours to get them to freeze and then I didn't even get enough ice to fill my cup. So this machine is perfect for that. I have sensitive teeth too so regular ice just kills my teeth. This does not. |

It would be great for parties. Much less messy than having to fill an ice bucket again and again. |

It makes the ice almost instantly so you can have it whenever you want. Amount of wait time is not much longer than heating a plate of food in the microwave. |

She pretends not to criticize but she thinks she's being clever, doing so in a backhanded way. Hey, if anyone wants to spend money on an ice maker I really don't care. However, the ice maker built into my old refrigerator supplies plenty of ice for three people, every day. If you need to buy an extra ice maker I'd say you're using a hell of a lot of ice. Jill |

The ice maker runs all of the time, and by Sunday afternoon we're out of ice. There's no making extra ice. Yes, I'd rather buy it than fiddle about with ice cube trays. Cindy Hamilton |

Just prior to guests arriving hop, skip, and jump over to the local convenience store and pick up a ten pound sack of Crystal Pure cubes for like three bucks, sock em into an insulated cooler, or if you can find room into your freezer, for drinkiepoos. Ordinary ice makers don't make crystal clear party cubes... and fridge ice maker cubes always stink of last night's wretched lamb stew. People who know something about entertaining plan in advance to have fridge space for viands and freezer space for a bag of Crystal Cubes. Those portable icemakers do not make very nice cubes, they're cloudy, no nicer than ordinary ice tray cubes that anyone can save up for guests they don't care about. I much prefer my ice tray cubes because I fill my trays with RO water... but when I have guests I buy a bag of Crystal Clear cubes for a couple three bucks. I have no use for an icemaker in my fridge, 95% of the time ice cube trays suffice and when I have guests I buy Krystal Klear ice. |
