Why am I not surprised. It is not polite to swear but you could be right in your assumption. I believe in free speech. How do you know I wasn't teasing Julie and not berating her? Do you know the difference? ===== |

Complained, and they refunded. Fine. Also dinged the seller in 'comments', and they weren't happy, but changed their item description soon after. A friend ordered a computer system from Dell many years ago. Part of the monitor base was missing They sent him a whole new, BIGGER monitor and told him to keep the other one. |

I was given a Dell computer some years ago as a gift. I called and complained because it was supposed to come with a microphone and it wasn't there. They said they couldn't just send me one so they sent me some money to go buy one which I did. Some years later, I was getting rid of the boxes as I didn't have the computer any more. And there was the microphone! It was much smaller than I had envisioned and tucked away in a bag of some sort of instructions that I never opened as I never needed. Oops! |

There's a company in the U.S. called McMaster-Carr <http://www.mcmaster.com> She probably could order suitable hardware there, but she's mechanically impaired. McMaster is excellent; my husband is a frequent shopper on their web site. Still, having Amazon make good on what they sold her probably was the right thing to do. Cindy Hamilton |

I'm absolutely positive that there is nothing so special about that hardware that you can't buy it from an on line store for mere pennies, just like that shower chair seller did... I'll bet my bippee that shower chair company does not make their own fastener hardware, not one nut/bolt in any automobile is made by the automobile company... there are companys that do nothing but manufacture fasteners. Odds are great Lowe's and Home Depot will have that hardware.... they carry a huge selection of stainless steel and brass nuts and bolts. https://www.boltdepot.com/ http://www.marshfasteners.com/ http://www.homedepot.com/b/Tools-Har...vZc255Z1z0yg27 Fifty pages of stainless steel fasteners: http://www.lowes.com/Search=stainles...eel+fasteners#! |

Some years back, I ordered a lighting fixture from Marks and Spencer. It was missing one bulb (out of six). When I called them about it, instead of just sending me _one_, they gave me enough money to buy a dozen bulbs. |

They didn't mail you cash same as you didn't mail them cash to make the purchase. Just like any store they'd credit your plastic. I might have believed your barroom BS had you said they sent you a package containing one bulb, but I don't believe they'd send you cash and enough to buy a dozen bulbs when only one was missing from a six bulb fixture.... normal people would simply screw in one of their own... I hadn't realized you're related to the Bove. Marks & Sparks is no mom n' pop, it's too huge an operation for some clerk to forego their accounting system... you'd be more believeable had you said they sent you a gift card enough to buy one light bulb. Their smallest denomination is £1=$1.42, and their gift cards can be used on line. http://www.thegiftcardcentre.co.uk/p...gift_card.html http://www.x-rates.com/calculator/?f...o=USD&amount=1 |

Brass might be okay, but may also be too weak, depending on the construction methods used. SS bolts would be better IMO. Easier to find too, at least where I live. |

I bought the fixture online using a card, so, yes, they credited the card I used for the purchase. It was a halogen fitting, not a standard lightbulb, and not something I had in stock. I do now, though! I had asked them to send the missing bulb, but the customer service rep insisted on crediting my account for an amount sufficient to buy 12. M&S customer service is excellent. > Marks & Sparks is no mom n' pop, it's too huge an operation for some > clerk to forego their accounting system... you'd be more believeable > had you said they sent you a gift card enough to buy one light bulb. > Their smallest denomination is £1=$1.42, and their gift cards can be > used on line. > http://www.thegiftcardcentre.co.uk/p...gift_card.html > http://www.x-rates.com/calculator/?f...o=USD&amount=1 > You get your information from Google - I get mine from actually dealing with M&S... |

By that I mean there are those who only see people being 'mean' to her if a comment can in any way be perceived as being critical. |

Worse still, they don't realize that they are doing it. When I worked at K Mart, we would occasionally give people parts from the hardware department if we had them in stock and their furniture or other item was missing them. This was far simpler than making them return something huge and then waiting to get the parts back from the company or worse still, another unit. I think on occasion we even gave them a few dollars back if we did not have those parts and they had to go to a larger hardware store to get them. That wasn't the norm but it did happen to keep the customer happy. |

Available at any good hardware store. Still not the same. These have huge plastic knob things on them. And I'm not about to pay for parts for something like this. I did for my towel rack only because I knew that the mail order place I bought it from had no more in stock and that would have been a PITA to send back. The extra seat will be handy. I know from experience that it will eventually get moldy underneath and be impossible to clean fully. |

No, they won't but they *will* be available to buy somewhere. You could post a pic of the plastic knobs and bolts in question here, I'm sure somebody would provide a link to some you could buy if you did. |

If your local store does not carry them Google bolts with knobs. Amazon has 400 pages of them. The other option is to use a regular bold and a wrench. Don't tell me it does not work, I've very familiar with shower seats. It can work. |

I was given a choice of refund or exchange. I asked if I could take the missing part and send that one back. No problem, do what I want to do. It's very easy with Amazon. BTW: I discovered that the part wasn't missing after all, it had changed from colored to clear so I didn't see it. -- sf |

Brass might be okay, but may also be too weak, >depending on the construction methods used. SS bolts would be better >IMO. Easier to find too, at least where I live. Brass fasteners are plenty strong for a plastic stool (stronger than the plastic), only drawback they tarnish. Had the Bove posted the URL for the stool with a discription and picture she'd have gotten a lot more help.... I doubt the nuts n' bolts are larger than 1/4"-20, and the plastic is a piece of tubing over the protruding threaded portion to prevent the user from getting cuts from the sharp threaded edges. |

Just so happens I am well acquainted with someone who worked for several years at a Marks & Sparks in London, England as an accountant, that's how I just today learned the Brits call it Marks & 'Sparks'... she didn't believe your fercocktah story either, she said they'd never send you cash, they'd either send a gift card to cover the cost of the one bulb or tell you to stop into a store and they'd give you the one bulb, even if they had to take it from another lamp... no one there you could phone directly would have the authority to send you cash... they'd not mail the Queen Mother of England cash. Were it Halagen bulbs there's even less reason to believe you because they can be pricey and Brits are notoriously frugal/cheap so you would have said they are halogen bulbs in your initial post rather than after the fact bloat your lie, a normal honest person would even have posted a pic of that fancy schmancy lamp in your home, not an URL to a web site any BSer can post. You were just trying to top someone else's story, same as any common barroom sot does on a daily basis. WTF is it people have a need to post fanciful fairytales to Usenet that they have no way of proving, all I can think is that they are extremely insecure *******s, imbeciles who believe no one would question their bullshit stories. Everything I have ever posted here I have proved initially or could prove if anyone who doubted me asked. Half of the posters here nowadays I don't believe they are who they claim they are or a word of what they claim they cooked... the honesty of at least 50% of those who post to RFC has declined the same as the rest of this planet's peoples. Viemeister, your posts are like those from someone who claims to have caught the big fish who has never baited a hook... your trophy fish grew ever bigger in this post... try again, but first screw up your courage by having a few more shots of rotgut with your loud mouthed barroom buds. Now I'm done with you. |
