Default Wild Jungle Peanuts again.

I tried these some years ago. Can't remember the brand or where I got them
but they were just meh. At the time I likened them to nuts that were trying
to be pecans but failed. Very expensive things.

But I happened upon them again at Nuts.com and people said they were the
best. I will say that these do taste better but IMO do not warrant the
price. I suppose if I lived where they grew and had a tree of them, I would
eat them. But I will not go out of my way for them again. They do taste
slightly like a pecan but pecans are better.

I am not sure why they are called peanuts. They are not and to me they do
not like like a peanut except for being about the same size and roughly the
same shape. Certainly not the same color or texture. They are supposed to
have more nutrients. I think I'll pass.

They're called peanuts because they are peanuts.

I was ordering other things and added them to my order based on the reviews.
I did say they were better than the others I tried but they are just not for
me.

I know. These are not real peanuts. I think they grow on trees but I could
be wrong.

Did you even read the link you provided? Where in heaven's name do you get

They are indeed "real" peanuts, cultivars native to South America, where
peanuts originated. They don't grow on trees.

You're an idiot.

Because they don't look or taste like them. They are seeds. I may not have
read that from that link but I did read it. They are seeds and not related
to what we know as peanuts here.

I am not finding much information on them. They do indeed grow in the
ground but do not look or taste anything like what we call peanuts in this
county. I know that I read somewhere that they are not true peanuts because
people with peanut allergies can eat them.

She seems to think they're going to grow into a peanut tree.

Something I read when I first bought these, some years back led me to
believe that they were not actual peanuts. Apparently this was wrong. But
they do not taste even remotely like what I know as peanuts.

They either are peanuts... or they're not. How can this be so
complicated??

I'm very confused, especially as pink peppercorns are not peppercorns. Oh dear. And a Bombay Duck is a fish. And in the USA a bison is a buffalo. Food is so difficult.

It's all too much, isn't it?
I think I'll just play it safe and buy all my food from Amazon.

Well, now the only thing I am reading on the subject aside from comments
from people with peanut allergies is that people with peanut allergies are
really allergic to the aflotoxins in the nuts which the jungle nuts don't
have. Please note that I am not saying this is true or untrue. I don't
know. I just know that I don't particularly like the things.

There are numerous variations on the species Arachis hypogaea. Just one
example:

http://www.rareseeds.com/fastigiata-...chis-hypogaea/

Those don't look like what you call peanuts either, but if you know how
to DYOFR, you'd see that they are still part of the family of cultivars
commonly called "peanuts." In this case, Arachis hypogaea equatoriana.

Repeat: you're an idiot. You really could stand to stop posting here so
you can go dig up a clue.

Aflatoxin is produced by a fungus that lives on (among other things)
peanuts. The fungus grows in moist soil.

A quick google failed to turn up any reputable sources (e.g., the
Centers for Disease Control) discussing jungle peanuts.
If I had a peanut allergy, I wouldn't risk my life on the pathetic
information available on jungle peanuts.

From a respected medical site..

Q: You didn’t mention aflatoxin in your recent article on peanuts. Should
I be concerned?

A: No. Peanuts sold in the U.S. are not considered a problem.

So it's not the source of peanut allergies.

You cleverly snipped "jungle peanuts" from my reply:

If it (aflatoxin) isn't the source of peanut allergies,
then it doesn't matter anyway.

Why yes. I want to support those lovely native peoples and drug czars.
You should try their coca-cola, they use the original recipe. Makes
any other energy drink seem like CRAP.
