It's new and improved! Or maybe they ran out of Kaiser rolls. ![]() The simpler food is best. They do a good job with burgers and fries. I had a good meatball sub last month. And yes, they do a decent job with fish & chips. It's when they try to get fancy they tend to screw things up. Jill |

Coincidentally, I got a hankering for the fish & chips so I picked up an order to go last evening. While waiting for my order at the bar there was a guest sitting there, looking over all the menus for the various dining rooms. I gathered from his conversation with the dining room manager (yeah, I was eavesdropping) he and his wife are just here looking around. The DRM brought him all the menus then went to do whatever it is he does. The guest asked the server what it means when the menu says 'tapas'. She replied, "A half size entree. Not everyone wants a full portion." I didn't mean to laugh out loud! He looked at me and said, "I thought 'tapas' meant 'appetizers'." I just smiled and said, "Not on Dataw." >> I do have to say, I really *miss* hushpuppies. They would go so well >> with crispy battered fish & chips! > > I always liked hushpuppies too. I've only encountered one seafood restaurant in this area that even has hushpuppies on the menu. I'm not talking Long John Silver's or Captain D's, neither of which lasted in this seafoodie town. There isn't a Long John Silver's around here. I used to go there when I lived in Tennessee. Ditto Captain D's. I According to an online search there's a Captain D's on Boundary Street, *if* it's still there. According to Mapquest it would take me a half an hour to get there. Were I so inclinded I could certainly make hushpuppies. > I'll bet you their food tastes better than "the Club" version. > Their "chicken planks" are really tasty too. I think they were to fill you up while you waited to be served because their small entree portions wouldn't. That was the first time I had eaten hush puppies, was also the last time... I'm pretty sure it was over cooked extra dry Stove Top Stuffing mix made golf ball sized. If you ate two and had something to drink they'd expand while they kept you waiting so you could barely eat that small meal. After that first time I'd only patronized Red Lobster when they had a special on all you could eat Alaskan crab legs for $5.95, but that monthly special disappered in about two years... I've never been back to a Red Lobster. |

I've never been back to a Red Lobster. I don't remember ever seeing HPs on a Red Lobster menu, only the Cheddar Bay Biscuits, LoVE THEM. There was a chain here in MD many many years ago called Chesapeake Bay Seafood House and they always served HPs. They had all you can eat items like crabs, shrimp, scallops and probably other food but those were the ones I liked. Well, I only like the crab claws. -- ღ.¸¸.œ«*¨`*œ¶ Cheryl |

Many I know here even just toss out the claws. I don't...I use all the meat but I do prefer the body meat over the claw meat. Definitely a different taste between the two. I'll often use the claw meat in a busy recipe and save the more delicate body meat for a recipe that uses less seasoning. Actually, whenever I cook and pick crabs to save for recipes later, I'll usually just combine the two saved meats. |

Many years ago (when my parents were fairly young and I was much younger LOL ) I visited Dataw and my dad took me crabbing. We brought home a cooler full of blue crab. I'd brought my little mutt dog Sampson with me and he was sniffing around the cooler. All of a sudden he heard them scuttling around in there and JUMPED! WTH is that?! LOL As for the crab, we boiled them and ate them, picking the meat from the claws and body meat. Sweet, succulent, delicious. Even though I live here now I haven't had fresh picked crab in a very long time. Jill |
