Default Dinner at the CIA

Tonight, to celebrate uor 50th anniversary we had dinner at one of the
restaurants at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. Our
anniversary is Saturday, but when I made reservations a couple of weeks
ago it was not available so I too tonight.

This is just one of the restaurants they have
http://www.ristorantecaterinademedici.com/
others can be seen here
http://www.ciarestaurantgroup.com/

Over the years we've been fortunate to have some great restaurant meals
but this was in the top five. Italian food as good as we've enjoyed in
Italy.

Run by students under the supervision of instructors, it was a perfect
evening. The door was opened as we approached the door, greeted inside
and seated at our table. Everything was elegant and served properly.

The food was excellent and looked delicious when presented professionally.

If you live in the area, you really have to try it. For us, it is a 3
hour drive so we won't be coming often. We are just away for a couple
of days so it was easy to plan. If we lived less than 30 miles we'd be
here often.

Plan ahead if you want a particular day and time. You won't be sorry.

Happy anniversary!

That's a class operation all the way.

I believe I'd have tried the Orecchiete al Sugo and balanced that
richness off against the Sogliola al Vapore.

Which plates did you choose?

I had Gnocchi di Patate e Ortiche and Arrosto di Vitello. My wife had
Prosciutto e Crescentine and Agnello, Cicorie e Favette

As you would expect, it was cooked perfectly. We had a bottle of
Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso
Corvina/Rondinella Veneto 2011

A virtual gift for you and your wife, wishing you a very happy anniversary!

Grandma collected tea cups but this wasn't something she just picked up.
They were married for over 60 years, this was icing on the tea cakes
(so to speak) for their 50th. Congratulations!

Wow, some outstanding choices, these students are true culinary artists!

I noticed they have a school in San Antonio, bookmarked for a future
vacation, thanks!

I have had fabulous meals at several of the restaurants there,
although I have not been to the Italian one yet.

Happy Anniversary Ed and wife! I think you've mentioned her name before
and I would have added it but for the life of me I just can't remember.
I'm glad you wrote about it because it sounds very good!

I had gnocchi with a brown butter sauce, then veal roast with a mushroom
flan and white asparagus. Wife had prosciutto with a fried bread dough,
followed by lamb chop with greens.

The valpolicella was the most expensive single bottle of wine I ever
bought, but it was probably the best I've ever bought. It was a special
occasion so I went for it when the server said it would be great with
our meals. It was. In the past I've always topped out at $33 to $35.

There was a table of six in another room. When they were served the
first dish, six servers came from the kitchen, walked around the table
and placed them on the table with military precision.

Be sure to reserve well in advance from what I saw here when I tried.

Thank you, Ed for the translation. Sounds fantastic.

And now that today (Saturday) is your actual anniversary...

Did you snap a picture of that for your Memory Album?
I congratulated you for your 50th when you made the announcement a
week or so ago but again, Happy Annirversary!
I remember you saying recently that you haven't retired yet... you
must have married very young, a teenager... but then people married
much younger fifty years ago.

I'll be 105 end of next month officially.
We seem to be survivors. None of us use cell phones.
That could be a factor, who knows?

Oh, pardon me! I didn't mean to prematurely age you.

Oddly enough, a local computer repair guy is also a survivalist. (No,
not the television show. LOL)

He loaned me a book called 'Lights Out' by David Crawford. Oh, boy, you
should read this book. It's actually a very entertaining story about
what might happen if an Electro Magnet Pulse knocks out all the
electrical power across the globe.

It's pretty intense but I don't sit around expecting this sort of thing
to happen. This computer repair person who is surrounded by all sorts
of electronic devices in his shop totally believes it. He warned me if
my car stalls on the highway due to an EMP (how the heck would I know?!)
to start walking AWAY from town as quickly as possible. Oh, he also
said it's probably a good idea to have a gun, but don't carry a rifle or
a shotgun when walking down the highway. I rarely do that. LOLOL

It was a good book. But this guy actually seems to be waiting for
something like this to happen.

And they all ate extruded french fries and nurtured the black mold on
their basement walls...

Self-fulfilling prophecies are like that.

I think it's wonderful that you went out of your way to find
such a place to celebrate your day. Very romantic.

I like to do things that makes her happy. She appreciates what I do for
her so that makes me happy.

I could get a bit philosophical about this, but a while back I found
that things are unimportant, people are.

That is more than a lifetime for some people.
