These are _city employees_ not independent contractors.
They're making a full salary as if they worked 5 days
a week it's just their work week consists of 4 days.

A tip does not have to be reported on their income taxes,
ask waiters and waitresses if they report ALL their tips.
How would these trash collectors boss know how much cash
they receive if they are tipped unless they piped up and
told them the amount?

No, you penurious succubus, you're not supposed to care about anyone or
anything but your own solipsist existence.

Enjoy the afterlife, I bet it'll be a real "eye-opener" for you...

I worked 3 days a week and off 4 for 30 years. We were
*supposed* to work around 13 1/2 hours per day to make a 40
hour work week but it was not enforced. Twelve hours was our
work day 99% of the time and we got full pay.

Understood now - yes.

There is a no-tip mentality here.

You'd be surprised. My city's population is around 700,000.
Granted, some neighborhoods are much more wealthy than mine.
Why do you think there was so much howling when the city put a
stop to them asking for tips?

All we need to know is it's separated and each color is a category.
She can figure out the rest of it.

Just an FYI, my garbage can is black. Lawn clippings and food compost
are separated and their cans are different shades of green. Blue is
recycling, of course.

The trash can as well as the recycling can is 96 gallons
each here. I called and requested the 64 gallon size; no way
I could fill two 96 gallon cans. It's a rare week if my 64
gallon wheeled trash can is full; recycle can is almost always
full after a month of recycling.

If you have a bunch of kids, especially teenagers you generate
more garbage and the city, here, will deliver you an extra trash
can if you need it.

No worries, but generally speaking the term conspiracy theory is used
in a derogatory sense. No conspiracy theory here, as you can see (but

I don't tip the mail carrier for various reasons, but I do tip the UPS
guy at Christmastime because I do most of my non-grocery shopping from
Amazon and other places to avoid shopping because I just can't do it
anymore, so I get a lot of deliveries. This guy is so great, and so
friendly and will even carry heavy boxes into my house.

No. I mean that I will toss it out the car window.... tossing it far
enough that it is off the road and the shoulder.... well over into the
grass. It is organic matter and will decompose, and possible feed a
bigger critter.

But... let's give the Bove for making yet another idiotic claim about
there being cameras to catch people littering. It just gets better all
the time.

54 miles from Mt. Vernon, Wa. (Skagit Co.) to your dump. About an hour.
And of course your car has no air conditioning, or a cooler that a
rational person would pack to put things in, if that was a concern.
Every time you supposedly went, the days were too hot? Really?
You give people who live in Washington State a bad name.
Sheesh.

Bet me?

Get ready to LOSE, Grinch!

http://work.chron.com/paper-route-pay-scale-20145.html

Indeed.com job listings suggest you can earn between $150 and $500 per
week. Some paper distributors pay a set amount each week, while others
pay an hourly rate or fee per paper. Newspaper carriers work as an
independent contractors, so you are responsible for your own vehicle
including gas, insurance, maintenance and repairs.

Service Tips
In addition to your contractor pay, you may also earn money in tips. You
are less likely to receive frequent tips if your route consists of
retail clients such as stores or large businesses, but residential
customers often reward good service through tips. Examples of providing
good service include consistent, timely delivery at approximately the
same time each day and meeting special requests such as leaving the
paper by the front door of the home or business. Some customers tip on a
weekly basis, while others only offer a tip once in a while.

http://money.usnews.com/careers/best...dresser/salary

Hairdressers arent typically salaried employees. The majority are
self-employed and many work part-time. The BLS reports the median hourly
wage for hairdressers in 2014 was $11.12, which translates to $23,120 a
year. The best-paid earned approximately $45,840, while the lowest-paid
made about $17,160.

I know someone who was a trash collector, here. Do not know him well. Would
see him at the dance studio. He always looked worn out and would often fall
asleep while his daughter was taking her one class.

After a couple of years, I noticed that he looked like he was more well
groomed, better dressed, not falling asleep and seemed much happier. Only
then did I find out that he'd changed jobs. I heard someone asking him about
it. He is now a road flagger. He said that although the job was a tad boring
and it still wasn't good having to be out in the elements, it was far less
wearing on his body than collecting trash and the pay was much better. His
daughter was then able to take more dance classes. I guess he couldn't
afford more before. His wife works, but I don't know where. The girl is an
only child.

I have seen reports on some forums of wives of trash collectors boasting of
how lucky they are and how they don't have to buy too much because their
husbands are always bringing home perfectly good stuff that people toss out.
However, their idea of perfectly good stuff might not match mine. And I
think people who would have the time to sort through and pick stuff out for
themselves would be the minority. Here they are on a strict time schedule.
No way could they do that.

That's a very real story, thanks for sharing.

Imagine a hard-working guy like that paying for dance classes.

And they'd be reprimanded if caught, if not fired.

When I was a lad going to the dump with my best friend and his uncle was
the highlight of the weekend.

Man did we find and fix some truly crappy stuff up!

Built a real cool chopper bicycle once from several donors, one a Huffy
Stingray with a broken banana vinyl seat, but plenty of good parts too.

Lesson learned - longer front forks are bad news on any bike.

Learned a bit of welding/brazing too.

Moderate latecomer that I am I can only go on the past few years and the
warnings of others.

For sure she has you in her sights and not in a good way.

Does not matter. Come November we'll all be making $15/hour. It must be
good, everyone wants it.

We weren't out just driving around. We were there for the tulip festival and
to do some shopping. We were out all day so the AC in the car was rather

How in the world could anyone throw something out their house window? Don't
