Why should they get paid extra for something they've done no extra work to earn a tip? As I said, they only work 4 days a week here. Some of these guys were raking in an extra $10,000 per year and you can bet they didn't declare it on their income taxes. |

It would be impossible not to report it on their income taxes. Their employer is required by federal law to report their wages. 'Only' working 4 days a week isn't a blessing. That means these guys are not making full wages to support a family. I don't know, what are darn good salaries for emptying garbage? $15-$20 per hour? Or $7? Do you think emptying garbage was their first choice for a job? 'Raking in' no longer applies to $10,000/year. That amount won't cover most of the utility bills and rent if one is extra frugal. No one said you have to tip. Janet US |

I don't know if working 4 days a week means they are making less than a full wage. They may be on a compressed work week. I worked a compressed work week of four 10 hour shifts and got the full week's pay. My son works mostly 12 hour shifts. If he works 5 days a week he is into serious overtime. No one working for tips makes an extra $10,000 per year with the exception of maybe waiters and waitress' in a high priced restaurant. A trash man even getting tips from many won't come close to that. > > It would be impossible not to report it on their income taxes. Their > employer is required by federal law to report their wages. Have you ever heard of the "underground economy?" Some predictions even say up to 50% of income is not reported. Regardless of the percentage, it's a big thing that's happened forever. So many people don't report income. If you get paid in cash, and you don't deposit it, there is no paper trail. Also don't go out spending more money than you claim. >'Only' > working 4 days a week isn't a blessing. That means these guys are > not making full wages to support a family. See what trashmen make. In my city, they make up to $45K per year, plus tons of benefits and full retirement. In bigger cities, the wage scale is MUCH higher. Don't be fooled by the 4-day work week. They get their full time with all the benifits. 4 day weeks are usually 10 hour days. Trashmen don't work part time. Hell, I kinda wish I had become one years ago. I don't mind hard work...it keeps you healthy. |

It never occured to me to tip the trash collecter... here all he does is drive the truck... the truck's hydraulic Snatch & Lift (panty & bra set) mechanism picks up the bins, dumps them into the truck, and places the bins back... it's a one man operation, I'm the one who has to schlep the bins to the road and back again. The driver just sits and drives. I'm sure the pay is very good, it's a huge company and in case you don't know private sanitation is operated by the mob. I consider the $28/mo a bargain (they supply the bins), would cost more to haul my trash to the town dump. http://www.county-waste.com/ |

For a while out mail delivery was contracted out and it was mail box roulette for one of the people on the route. I can't blame it entirely on her reading ability or lack thereof. There was an M. Smith about a mile down the road and the mailing address is a different town. A lot of her mail ended up her and a lot of my wife's mail went to her place. I once got an unemployment insurance cheque for a Dave Smith who lives four streets over and about two miles down, and one day I got some three large and very fancy brochures in my mail box. One was addressed to me, one to my next door neighbour and one to the next one down from them. I guess she figured that putting all three in my box would save her two stops. |

All the trash guy does is drive a truck house to house at tractor speed... playground monitor is much more difficult... brats are a lot more nerve wracking than trash cans, and a lotta brats stink worse than garbage No one pays attention to trash can abuse, run over one and no one cares, run over some brat and the world stops.. . . I'd much rather drive a trash truck than a school bus. |

At some point in time, didn't bove also claim there were no "farmers' markets" (aka 'stands'!!) in the 'universe of bothell'? It's too difficult to keep track of what bove implies with her statements and retractions. There are at least two "farmers' markets" available in the Bothell area: 1) Bothell Farmers Market http://www.countryvillagebothell.com...farmers-market Opens this Friday on June 3rd. Surprise, surprise -- this farmers market provides "fresh produce" from local farms! From its website listed above: "Our market offers a large variety of in-season, locally grown produce, straight from the farm! Pick up fresh cut flower bouquets, locally grown berries, homemade baked goods, fresh bread, eggs, organic fruits & veggies, infused oil & vinegar, honey, coffee, & jams! We sell handmade items from local artisans including jewelry, candles, & more." 2) Lake Forest Farmers Market http://thirdplacecommons.org/farmers-market/ From its website: "It is a fresh market with locally grown food, flowers, and plants . . . . " So, farmers markets (stands) do exist in the 'universe of bothell.' But wait for it, bove will no doubt have various, irrational reasons why such offerings won't and can't work if bove tried to shop there. Yep, quite safe in a bag. No one would notice. I can say that the garbage trucks in Tassie have cameras, if we have them then it's likely many other places do. I've no idea how strictly the truck operators adhere to the rules though. |

Due to unfortunate and unexpected circumstances, we had a teen guest come to stay late last night. I am assuming that the girls might want to use it before the rain begins. I will try to take a pic. Guy is going now to procure materials to replace the rotted steps. Deck is very nearly done. He was touching up the paint but the store had run out of the post caps and he needs to put two more on. I will probably wait until those are on for the pic. By then, I should have the furniture on it as well. And the best thing is that the job didn't cost quite as much as the original quote! |

If they were given cash, it would be easy enough to not report. I only ever had one job where I was given tips. That was at the golf course. After the bar closed, we sold canned and bottled beverages in the pro shop and I would get occasional tips, even though the drinks were self serve, out of a cooler. Not everyone tipped and the most common tip was 50 cents. But I did get $5 once. I did keep track and I did report. I guess not everyone is that honest. |

Define "darn good salary". Oh, you can't, well then let me: https://www.glassdoor.com/Salaries/g...RCH_KO0,20.htm National Avg $35,890 Min Max $28k $53k How much does a Garbage Truck Driver make? The average Garbage Truck Driver salary is $35,890 . Maybe that's your idea of "darn good", but it's not mine. And that's just the driver, not the assistant. > It's not like they applied for a job as a playground > monitor and suddenly being told they now have to pick up garbage if they > want a paycheck. Your own lurid fantasy, not reality. > Why should they get paid extra for something they've > done no extra work to earn a tip? Because they do it well every week of your year, they do it in sometimes crappy conditions, and they deal with your stinky REFUSE! You haughty uncompassionate slug! Btw, we also tip our mail carrier, newspaper carrier and hairdresser. It seems likely they earn as little or in some cases less as the garbage man. > As I said, they only work 4 days a week here. Go try and feed a family of 4 on $35K a year. Try and save for college. Try and own a new car or truck. Try and pay your mortgage. You're a truly rotten person joann, one of the worst in an otherwise soul-filthy group of misfits here. |
