Oddly enough, boosting my good gut bacteria isn't even on my
radar when I'm choosing food. I eat what tastes good (within

take a probiotic capsule daily and that misery seems

My doc suggested probiotics whenever I take antibiotics, definately
helps, begin taking 2 days prior to taking the antibiotic:

It isn't? It is on mine. I buy yogurt, keffir, ginger and pineapple
primarily for the positive effects on my guts.

I usually buy mine at the local Rite Aid, costs less, and I buy the 30
count size and keep it in the fridge. Occasionally I go on a 10 day
bout of Augmentin, 4 horse pills a day... I wish they made those pills
smaller... I need to psych myself up to swallow them, best way is not
to look at those pills. The 875 tablets I take are scarey big (22
mm). They are scored but breaking them in half creates sharp edges so
its worse. I take them for chronic bronchitis:

We now know that one reason for the appendix is that it's a natural source
of probiotics. People who have had theirs removed, need to supplement.

Mine was removed 63 years ago, when I was ten. Back then an
appendectomy required a week's hospital stay. When I arrived home my
younger brother gifted me with a very severe case of chicken pox...
you don't know itch until you have pox under your bandages. On the
plus side they put me under with a spinal, I was sitting on the edge
of the table when a nurse with the most massive boobs bent me over and
stuffed my entire face into her cleavage while the doctor stuck me, I
remember no pain and couldn't scream out anyway... some things I never
forget.

I'n pretty sure they help my diverticulosis - I take regular ones every
day and stronger ones if I have diverticulosis pain.

I eat yogurt and ginger because I like them. What else was on that
list? Kimchee? Sauerkraut? Chocolate? I eat all of those because
I like them.

The only thing I eat for functional purposes is prunes. Luckily, I
like them as well.

Mine had burst and they had to go back in a second time and
insert a drainage tube. I also had a stomach pump, a catheter,
and iv's for nearly the two weeks I was in hospital. I missed
a total of a month of school; fifth grade, but passed.

They probably do.

I take the Phillips brand, not just acidophilus which is
I believe all yogurt is. Not sure about that though.
Anyway, it's got several different cultures of good bacteria
numbering in the billions.

I didn't miss anything. I've lived with this problem for most of my life. My go-to gut foods are bananas, yogurt and acidophilus milk. I'll eat kim chee but not for intestinal regulation. The reality is that most people have no problem with maintaining a healthy environment in their guts. Most problems arise when they insist on drinking milk.

The dirty little secret is that most people on Earth have with problems with digesting lactose and "probiotics" can be a great help. OTOH, "probiotics" is a marketing term that's purposely kept vague. It's trending at the moment but most white folks don't these things.

I've insisted on drinking milk all my life. No problems. Completely
northern European heritage, though.

+++ on the quacks...one of my daughters believes what they say about vaccinations and refuses to get her son immunized against any of the nasty diseases. She will not listen to reason...must have inherited that from her mother. Too bad, because immunization has been proven to be effective for eons.

There was an interesting case here last year. A young native girl had
leukemia. She didn't want to do the chemo thing and the parents pushed
to be allowed to do the traditional Indian healing routine. The hospital
went to court to try to force them to allow the chemo therapy that has a
good record of curing the disease. They sent her to a quack
naturopathic clinic in Florida. The girl died.

I'm fortunate in that regard as both sets of my grandchildren have had
the appropriate jabs - including my grandson having the HPV jab.

I insisted on not drinking kid for as far back as I can remember. I
don't dislike the flavour, but I just can't grasp the concept of milk as
a beverage. I goes down my throat like wet phlegm and it gives me gas
and the trots. My heritage is English, Scottish,Irish, German and French.

My bones have not suffered. I have very large and very strong bones. I
eat yogurt and drink keffir several times a week, but only started that
about 5 years ago.

Don't feel bad. I was in a coffee shop today and there was a young
couple at the next table. The guy was talking about his classes and
said he just wrote an English exam and then said "I hope I did good on it."

Sure, no surprises there. I'm not defending naturopathy, just pointing
out that most people aren't objective about mainstream medicine's pros
and cons. Plenty of quacks operating with a degree on their wall.

I hope she knows that the British doctor who promoted that claim, lost
his licence to practise medicine in UK.
Quite why America lets an unlicensed faker continue to call himself a
