I've actually got one frozen hamburger pattie thawing in the pan right now. In addition to that, I'll either make the grilled cheese with tomato sandwiches, or I'll eat the one thawed burrito. Between lunch and dinner, I'll have them all! yeah man! |

What about thinly sliced onion? When I was a kid I used to slice sweet pickles, open up the grilled cheese fresh off the grill, and stick the pickles inside. |

Excellent! I always do that. If I have it, a little thinly sliced fresh jalapeno, too. I use mass-market (Kraft) cheddar rather than American, and will use grape tomatoes if homegrown aren't in season. Cindy Hamilton |

I'm going to impart a old Indian trick. Don't tell anyone. Put half your pepperoni or what have you on one half of one side of the sandwich in a single layer. Add your cheese on top of that to include the full slice of bread. Add the other half of your pepperoni or what have you to the top of the cheese in a single layer opposite the layering of the pepperoni that's on the bottom. Slap the top slice of bread on. Grill and the cheese acts like glue to all layers which avoids a slippery sandwich. leo |

Used two pieces of STL BreadCO sourdough bread and didn't let the cheese melt enough before flipping so I kinda screwed that up! But it wa s a disgustingly delicious mess! Butter, cheese, good bread! I make a grilled cheese spaghetti the same way. It's the reason I like non-stick pans - you can do things with them that you cannot do with stick pans. I like to use mayo instead of butter on the bread. One day most people will do that. ![]() |

I make my bread (to our preference) with seeds and wheat flakes and mixed wholemeal and white flour. I expect that might make a difference. It was good but fairly greasy. I will do it like this again, but not with the added cheese on the outside. Oh and I did add sun dried tomatoes in the middle which made that part very good. -- http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/shop/ |

I'd take your bread or anyone else's homemade bread over white bread any day. Hee hee. Oddly enough, I've been making cheese sandwiches with grilled cheese on the outside for years. I think a better choice for the cheese on the outside is Parmesan cheese. It's tastier and less greasy! |

I need to hit the store and pick up some good bread, some cheese and I think some butter. Lol I'm not a bit prepared for grilled cheese today. I made my 2 grilled cheese sandwiches yesterday, the old traditional way. - Buttered one side of fresh white bread - added one slice of american cheese product - added one slice of good tomato - salt and pepper - other slice of buttered bread The 2nd one, I added two slices of the cheese. Not so good. I prefer the one slice deal. To make it a real old time comfort food, a bowl of tomato soup would have been nice. Didn't do it this time. |
