I mean, it's all up to them, isn't it? That goes back to suggestions made here that many people are too stupid to vote. The departure from the EU was a possibility that they should have considered when they voted. Things are always changing in the world of politics and you cannot expect to take second, third and fourth votes when other things change. Governments generally take a long time to pass legislation because it takes a long time to consider all the ramifications and outcomes. |

I wonder what Maggie Thatcher's take on this contretemps would be, Ms. O .... I was watching some news clips from the first 1975 referendum, and she was pro - EU, even wearing a colourful sweater (jumper?) emblazoned with the flags of the EU states... At that very time in early June 1975 I was visiting the UK (I was on a student tour), and I vividly remember much of the hub - bub surrounding the referendum... UK was a very different place back then, it was "the poor man of Europe"; a common lament was, "We won the war, but it's the Germans who are rich - shouldn't it be the other way around?" I remember a general air of shabbiness... in fact, coming from bright, shiny, and prosperous West Germany it was something of a jolt. Industry was in a parlous state, there were the strikes of that era, etc.... Now Britain is rich (at least in the SE!), it's Labour who wanted to stay in the EU, and the Conservatives out...interesting times! -- Best Greg |

Many Labour areas voted to Leave. The Tories were split which is why we are having the problems now. The PM and many of his cabinet wanted to Remain, and others in his cabinet fought to leave. -- http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/shop/ |

The new connected age has made for a world filled with disinterested third-parties. They have no horses in the race - they just believe that they do. We'll have petitions with many "signers" demanding that wrong-doers be punished for their stupidity/arrogance/race. Mostly, it's bullying without risk of any real identification/confrontation/repercussions. Welcome to the new world! |

I want someone to go to Washington and politically blow the garbage out of it. Few would remain standing. Hell, I hate my own party. They are more hawkish versions of Democrats and just want to drive the bus off the cliff while at the wheel. Trump may or may not do that, but he scares the hell out of the politicians in both parties and the media which is a good thing. leo |
