Right around that time it dropped by 100 points and I saw nothing in my credit reports to explain that, meaning no accounts opened, no late payments, nothing other than a fraudulent tax return filed which took nearly a year to clear up. Score is rising again since then but it can drop like a stone for seemingly no reason, and take forever to get back to where it were it was. Does that make me > a braggart too? The actual numbers are rather meaningless unless you also know who did the rating. Different companies use different scores. My score was actually higher than my husband's at one point when he got his new car because too many different people/companies/whatever had run credit checks on him at one time. Neither of us had bad scores but mine was a tad higher and our credit union said this was why. |

Big surprise. Not that I care, but one reason listed why my score wasn't higher was that I didn't have a however many year credit history. Oh, sorry I didn't have credit cards when I was 10. The best reason to keep your score in the excellent range is to get lower insurance premiums, or lower interest rates if you do borrow money. Other than that, it's not that important to your life. These days you can get your actual FICO score from some credit cards, it's not the same thing as a credit score, and it's what lenders/etc really are checking. nancy |
