This kind of thing used to happen all the time back in the bad old days. My guess is that it has to do with old, worn-out, servers on it's last legs, breaking down. Things are a lot more reliable these days - probably because the service providers are leasing their servers. Better living on the cloud? You bet!

Your best bet is to find a different service provider or use Google Groups. I encourage you to use GG because I get a doller if you switch.
