Around here most people have security cameras (maybe that's the correct name) usually mounted under the eavestroughing several feet to left or right of the door. I often walk through a suburban development near here because I like the gardens and often stop to chat with the owners and say how much I like their gardens. All gardeners love to feel people see and appreciate their work. Nearly all the houses have the cameras, not nosiness, just ability to identify if there is trouble. Very often if there is a crime police go door to door collecting those videos. |

As usual, taking my words out of context. In referring to women IN CANADA who wear niqab or hajib I said I would defend their right to wear it. In point of fact, just because some Muslim women wear it does not mean they are part of an 'extreme' branch of Islam. A Palestinian friend wears a hajib and she has lovely amber coloured eyes. I have teased her that she is half as stunning without her hajib as when she is wearing it, particularly a very lovely light mauve one. |

I suppose that car drivers could use them to catch some of the crap that cyclists pull. Dash cams are especially useful in corrupt places like Russia where people are constantly pulling accident scams. |

Good to see. Fortunately that scam hasn't taken off here (that said I can't speak for on the mainland). On a very similar theme, I've slammed my brakes twice on tailgaters over the past 35 or so years of driving - both times they rear ended my car. I was prepared for that eventuality in both cases, otherwise I wouldn't have done it in the first place. |

And don't say it rarely happens. It is considerably more rare than the reverse. Check the figures and that even after you allow for the fact some men might feel ashamed to admit to being beaten up by a female. It probably happens more often to women because they are usually smaller stature. My male friends do not call me sexist but those who are friends and many with whom I worked back in the day say I don't give an inch, and I feel it is a pity more women are not like that and get it sorted out. When I started work women were expected to quietly leave once they knew they were pregnant etc so over the years I saw some incredible situations unfold, so yes, I don't give an inch. I don't hate men, I just want a fair deal. |

I respect cyclists on the road but sometimes they do seem to have a death wish and do the most foolhardy things, after all, they will be the loser. |

I'm not talking about head > scarfs, but about burqas. Lucretia was talking about both hijabs and niqabs (which are pretty much equivalent to burqas). I couldn't tell which one you were objecting to. Most of the Muslims around here are pretty Westernized, although I don't often get to Dearborn, which has much higher concentrations of fresh immigrants. Cindy Hamilton |
