I think it may be an issue for retailers because putting something in a
bag happens at the end of the transaction. Traditionally, cashiers and
sales clerks have taken the money and put things in a bag once they are
paid for. They tend to be suspicious of people walking around with
things that have not been cashed out and bagged.

Who here is a retailer?

Ken got home without some of the items he paid for (per the receipt). I
contend if someone had been bagging the items he would not have been
ripped off in that manner.

Yes, well I don't see any big push to ban them from all the forward thinkers
that want plastic bags banned completelyt, wonder why that is? Wait, I know,
because so many of those same people use them several times a day.

I wonder if there's plastic in American honey.

I have no idea, the only honey we used in recent years was from my BIL who
was a beekeeper and processed his different honeys on site before putting
them in glass jars. We don't use honey anymore, but I never cared that much
for it in the first place.

Apparently, there can be so much plastic in the environment that it ends
up in bees and in their honey.

I haven't. None in trees, none blowing around like tumble weeds.
Sounds like Usain plastic bags all blow north into Canada.
You folks will have me looking for them now though.
If it's that bad, surely I'll spot one fairly soon. :-D

I'm sure I've seen one here or there. Just because it's likely,
but absolutely nothing like those pictures I saw. It is not
at all common to see plastic bags in trees where I live.

I remember someone had mylar balloons stuck in their tree.
That's it.

We're doing a Costco run today, I know one spot where I might
find bags in trees. Maybe. A little used highway entrance
that seems to miss the inmate cleaning routine.

I am happy to report, despite driving 15 whatever miles each way,
through busy areas and tracts of land that aren't maintained, fields
with trees, not one bag in a tree. Went a different way than we came
back. No bags.

I live across from a high school, so I do get some cups, wrappers etc. in my
yard...but have never seen plastic bags in trees, though I have seen toilet
paper in trees. ha ha

--------------

lol I used to see wrappers between the shop and the school where I used to
live and it became a real mess. Someone complained to the school and I
never saw any mess after that.

I can't say I've ever seen toilet paper though .. maybe it was because I was
living in a shopping centre ... ;-)

Err apparently ...

For a long time, someone was trying to get a McDonald's into my
town, they kept getting shot down. Finally they got the go ahead
but No drivethru and they are in trouble if their packaging starts
showing up as litter. So far, so good.

When we lived downtown we were pretty much the mid-way point between a
McDogs and a high school. I complained regularly, as did our
neighbours, to the principal but nothing came of it. So it's usually
clean around those joints but look eating distance away and there's
the junk. Now, around here, it is mostly coffee mugs, unfortunately
like the Keurig pods, they are not recylable.

That is exactly how it used to be as I mentioned above. A word with the
school sorted that out. I don't know what they did but no mess.

No doubt that some here will disagree, but my personal observation is
that some fast food franchise packaging litter seems to be more of a
problem that others. Between the stuff I see on my lawn and the litter
I see when out cycling. McDonalds is one of the worst. I rarely see
litter from Harvey's, Wendy's, Burger King or other similar fast food
joints. Around here, hands down, the worst is Tim Hortons.

FWIW, the town of Niagara on the Lake would not let McDonalds or Tim
Hortons open in the downtown tourist area. They restricted them to the
edge of town. Curiously, they allowed Starbucks to open an outlet
downtown a couple years ago.

LOL, and a fine shopping center no doubt. ;-) Someone toilet papered my
trees a few months ago, but it was low enough that I was able to reach it
and remove it.

I never contacted the school, but I have seen students out picking up trash
from the parking lot. They were actually cheerleaders on a Saturday, so
guess they got the message over there without me.

You won't see any when you're looking for them, but they're out there.
The bags re not in "all" the trees. They don't stay long either, UV
light breaks them down quickly. I usually see one or two in my
hedgerows right after garbage collection, they get caught by wild rose
thorns.

In NYS they have a 5¢ deposit, not many are tossed and if some are
there are people who subsist from collecting all sorts of deposit
bottles. Thing is plastic bottles don't survie long, UV light breaks
them down rather quickly... better than glass bottles... I can still
remember when parks, beaches, and roadways were littered with
shattered glass bottles, a lot of people were rushed to the ER with
gashed feet and most flat tires were due to broken glass bottles. I'm
very happy there are plastic bottles now, when I see any I pick them
up and cash them in with my own. Unfortunately there are still lots
of glass beer bottles.
