Nice pics, Sheldon from me too. I'm just wonder why you only maybe 6
corn plants. Does that give you all you need? I do know that prime corn
harvest time is before and after Labor Day, in your area.

With your giant property and your nice animal refuge, I'm surprised that
you don't take the corn growing out to the edge of your property...maybe
even in that back area beyond your cat barn and down the path through
the woods to the other open grass area.

You could plant several rows of corn on the edge of that field. Deer
love to eat fresh growing corn and you would still get all you want.
Leftover corn in that area would be a feast for all your ducks and geese
that come each winter. A plowed under cornfield is a hunting bait for
ducks and geese.

Someone likes to tag your pictures for you. And they are pretty disgusting. Is there anyway to fix the settings so other people cannot tag your pictures?

That fence is 2" shy of 7', the wire is six feet and those real RR
ties are ten inches, no deer has ever hopped into my garden... mice
and bunnies can get through the fence but since I've been caring for
feral cats there are no more rodents or bunnies... I made an opening
in the fence for the cats, they patrol in there constantly. Only
birds get in there, usually crows but they don't damage the crops,
only they will pull out young bean seedlings so now when I start large
seeds I place a chicken wire cage over the rows.
Deer aren't stupid, they won't leap into an enclosed space because
they need a good running start to leap a 7' fence... deer can't leap
very high from standing still. Deer can leap a 20'-30' distance at a
full run, but they'd need about 100' to attain a full run in order to
leap 7' high. and most deer can't leap quite that high anyway.... deer
are designed to cover distance quickly, they are not designed to
achieve great height. But from standing still they can leap straight
up maybe high enough to clear a 3' rail. If a deer leapt into my
garden they'd pretty much be caged... they'd need to rip through that
turkey wire and deer are capable of knocking down a turkey wire fence
when not well supported. One thing you never want to do is attempt to
face down a deer, they will usually run but not if with fawn, then
they will attack and bash your head in with one strike of their
hove... same reason one coyote won't attack a deer, it takes a pack of
coyotes to bring down a deer... and if the deer is healthy/unhurt it
can eassily out run coyotes. There are venison farms around here
(restaurants are not permited to serve wild venison), their corrals
are much larger than my garden but their fence is no higher than six
feet.

I'm not much into eating corn, those six plants will give me a dozen
ears, I usually don't plant corn, I can buy local ears for $3 a dozen

No hunting here and harvesting even one acre of corn by hand is a lot
of work, and then what would I do with it? I try to plant only what I
can use and still my garden produces too much... another bushel of
squash and cukes just went to the golf course, a big tournament today
so the players will be served lunch and dinner, including a lot of my
veggies. My garden can easily yield three times as much as it does
but I don't cram things in, I have no use for so much. Suprisingly
not many golfers here grow gardens, they spend all their spare time
hitting that little white ball.

Doesn't bother me, if that's all they have to do with their time let
them, they are just showing their pinheadedness and lack of having a
life. Truth is I don't notice it, once I post those pictures I don't
look at them, and when I want to I can see them in in the file on my
PC. If you didn't mention tags I never would have seen them.

Obviously people raised by parents with poor parenting skills, or maybe by
wolves.

They should indeed. I must say when I looked at the pics I never noticed
the tag and now I don't want to look.

I suspect they feel Very Clever <g>

Wolves actually possess excellent parenting skills... those skanks
were raised by Liberals.

Steve, don't be an idiot. Zoom in for perspective on the corn and
sunflower. Besides. it's common to have shorter doors for a fence,
repurposed for a garden surround.

Play all the games you want little boy. I have 2 owls as well, both in
excess of 2ft tall. Fencing comes in many sizes including how large
the squares are. He needs ones only large enough to keep deer out.

Why don't you post a picture of you standing next to a yardstick,

LOL-LOL

The dwarf is a dunce. I made that gate using hardware from Lee
Valley, that gate is 4' WIDE, it's 6' tall, of cedar planking. Real
RR ties are typically 10" X 10" X 10' long, and can weigh over 300
hundred pounds depending on how wet or dry... of course real RR ties
vary by track gauge. I bought used ties, $10 each... the worst part
was getting them home, two trips with the step son's Ford 250 pick up
truck from a lumber yard seven miles away, they weren't difficult to
move about and set into place with the front loader on my tractor. I
needed the ties because I decided to double the size of the garden
from 50' X 25' to 50' X 50' and wanted it to match what was there...
here is the work in progress, next was tilling:
http://i67.tinypic.com/s1khw1.jpg
That was 13 years ago... they no longer show that gate hardware, it
was inexpensive, about $15 and has held up well, can probably be used
a hundred times or as many times as the wood rots and is replaced.
I'm just shocked that the dwarf picked on my garden fence which is
obviously of 6' turkey wire and easy to prove with another picture and
a tape measure, I thought for sure he'd pick on my London broil as per
usual saying it was too well done for his TIAD.

LOL indeed...

Poor Steve, reduced to obsessing about the height of a fake owl and whether someone's gate is "dwarf size" or not...

The dwarf exhibits all the traits of a paranoid schizophrenic...
that's why he's relegated to pedaling his rickshaw to buy groceries at
his favorite texass viet kong hole foods. I'm suprised the dwarf
isn't subsisting on oriental insects... I'd bet he dined on lichee
flea pudding tonight. LOL-LOL

Steve's palaver grows sillier with each passing millennium...if we were not so attuned to his intimate doings we might assume his brain has been Swiss - cheesed by syphilis or Mad Cow Disease, but it's just "Steve being Steve"...

The dwarf fell off the reality stage when Katrinka the Powerful (Om)

Gads! Is that the "Omelet" who used to post here? IIRC Steve spooked her out when he started to "stalk" her, I believe he even wanted to move in with her...she didn't like it that he had a huge gun collection or some such like that...

That isn't the story he was giving out!! He said he brushed her off because
SHE wanted to move in with him. I guess she never knew he was ***. I think
it is time someone told her. Hopefully she might come back!

Agree absolutely! I have to say I believe Om before anything he says! In
fact Om
did have guns! Oh how he twists things!! I guess it is all coming out in
the wash as we say!

It was Om who was into guns, she was at the firing range often and was
into reloading shells. I think she was also collecting the spent lead
from the range and melting it down for her bullet molds. Om suddenly
disappeared from RFC, I don't remember ever reading an explanation for
why she left. The email address I had for her stopped working, mail
would bounce back. It's been very typical for people one meets on the
net to just disappear with no explanation. Several RFC people still
have their photo posted but have not been heard from for many years. I
wouldn't attempt to guess the truth about the OM-Sqwertz affair... for
all we know Sqwertz was caught sexually molesting Om's pet emus... Om
realized when her hen's eggs hatched dwarf emus... which is quite
likely since Sqwertz is a birdbrain.
