Last night we had our son and my wife's cousin over for dinner. Her
cousin is an actor living in a nearby town for the season. She thought we should do a roast because the two of them are cooking for one these days and should have a traditional dinner. She picked up a capon to roast, and also roasted small potatoes and baby carrots, and boiled green beans. We had some nice pate and crackers and prosciutto and melon for canapes. The appetizer was a simple salad topped with grilled shrimp. Dessert was a fresh peach pie that I baked in the morning. Everyone seemed to enjoy the dinner. I sure did. I am sure the cousin, being well raised and extremely polite, will send a thank you note and say how good everything was, whether he liked it or not. Our son called this morning to say thanks and was full of praise. He said the capon was amazing, the shrimps were outstanding, and that he he could not say enough about the peach pie. He had forgotten his sunglasses here and came by for them this afternoon and ate the last piece of pie. |
