It was you who brought up hate, not me. Looking for true equality is
not a matter of hate, it's trying to make it equal.

It's easy when you are with the favoured, did you see the latest
studies on men receiving pay raises more readily than women ?

Thank you muchly, Cheri. I subscribed to it as soon as I saw your post.
Interesting to read. I'll at least keep on lurking...might post someday

Possibly I was born too old. I've never much cared for pop/rock music,
but of course since I've been surrounded by it all my life I've heard
a lot of it. Classical, jazz, and folk is what I listen to, and always
have.

Probably because men just age better.
Case in point....Sean Connery
- looked like a dork in the old James Bond movies
- now at old age he looks cool and women love him

Look at "Blondie" now
Look at Tina Louise oh man

That said, please DON'T look at me now. hehehh

Very old musicians should retire gracefully. It's not about men or
women. They ALL should just fade away and leave us with the good
memories, not a comeback attempt that shows grannies and grampa's
attempting to still be cool. They are not. Not any more.

Your lot are just craftily manipulated. Now the Beatles were supreme

And yet you defend the raddled old Stones ! They're no better. I
don't watch PBS when they are fund raising but where else are you
going to find programmes like Frontline, Nova and some of the British
shows like Downton Abbey or Mr. Selfridge? PBS is great.

It's inane/shallow to pick apart how a women in her mid 50s looks:

I don't think she was ever Miss Universe quality, she never pretended
to be, but as a young woman she wasn't bad looking at all:

There have been many world reknowned opera divas with no better
looks... people don't attend operas to look, they attend to listen,
most will have their eyes closed through the entire performance.
Pavarotti wasn't much to look at either, not even when he was young...
men sport facial hair to hide their unattractive looks:

Not at all, in fact a female singer having a hot bod detracts from her
performance, the audience would be looking/gawking rather than
listening. Aretha Franklin wasn't a head turner but her audience
wasn't concerned with how she looked. Sammy's Davis Jr's looks didn't
prevent his becoming a super star. Anyone think Jackie Gleason was an
Adonis, yet he truly was The Greatest.

I disagree with that. I aged right along with them and I still love the
music. I don't mind at all seeing them old, true that the voices aren't as
good as when they were young as well as other features, but then...neither
are mine, they will always be *boss* and *cool* to me.

I haven't had a pay rise since 2002. I don't feel particularly favoured.

They also have a football pool going which is free and fun, dunno if you're
interested in that at all either, but you can check it out through Jason's
post to sign up. For this week, picks have to be done today since tonight is
the first game.

Please don't present your personal taste as fact. Or I'll tell you what
I think of that geriatric Abbey stuff.

I have always wondered this (perhaps a question for the ladies):

Do you consider the young Frank Sinatra to be a looker?

I never thought Sinatra was a handsome man at any age but he had the
voice and a special style... he was also not very tall.

PBS seems to be getting worse and worse. I used to watch it occasionally
when they had good shows on, but then they started to ramp up the
begathons. They would bring out the old time favourites and announce
that" if you want to watch fine programming like..... " pledge now.
After the begathon was finished they would switch back to the same
crappy old programming that is noticeably absent from the begathon.

Well, that's an opinion. Not mine, of course. I thought
he looked great as James Bond, and I thought he looked even
better in Time Bandits. I just looked at some recent
photos, and he is quite durable.

I don't know about the best of all time. They were pretty good, as were
many others. Most of the songs they played were creations of the Lennon
and McCartney song writing time. They had a lot of help from their
production team. Some of my favourite songs were Harrison's but he had
a hard time getting past the song writing duo.

I saw that show and I saw them live in Toronto. It turned me off the
large concert venues. As soon as the Beatles came on stage the girls
started screaming and I never heard a note. I was just a kid and didn't
appreciate the opening act, King Curtis. It was not until many years
later that I realized that the day I saw the Beatles I also saw Jimi
Hendrix. He was the guitarist for King Curtis on that tour.

Beats me. I am sure they will try to find a way to blame men for it. ;-)

Or mine, I never thought he was attractive and I really don't care for his
singing either.

Justin Bieber is the puzzler of the current music scene. He is a
scrawny little kid who doesn't sing very well. I had to chuckle when
they had him for the half time entertainment at the Grey Cup and he got
booed. I don't know why they would engage a twerpy teen idol to
entertain football fans.

I played the crap out of both of those, my cat scratched up the jackets,
and by the time I was done with vinyl they weren't worth doodly. They
ended up in the garbage with Shatner's "The Transformed Man" and (sadly)
Segovia and my favorite recording of the Brandenberg Concerti. My
husband's musical taste is a little more mainstream than mine; I believe
he's got some Beatles on CD and maybe downloaded from Itunes.

I had Beatlemania just like all of the girls in my cohort, even though
overall I wasn't a fan of rock music.

I can see you don't know anything about the popular music business since the
inception of the music video.

Or mine, I never thought he was attractive and I really don't care for his
singing either.

Nope, didn't like his singing either. A bit bland.
