It never bothered me. Lately though, it's gotten much worse (plus I've gotten older). It is so horrible in summers here now with the high temps and humidity (and high dewpoints). Day after day after day, I walk out to go to work and it feels like walking into a steamy bathroom. So many days working outside here this summer, we would start early then go home by lunchtime when the heat/humidity was so brutal. You would think that living right next to the ocean would cool things down but it doesn't. Hot summer days are always SW winds, blowing the cool ocean air offshore and no relief here. Supposed to be much nicer here this coming week. I hate cold winter days too but at least you can dress for that. |

Yes, the humidity is a killer, and I've always felt that I can add clothing in the cold as you say, but nothing to do for the heat, especially in work like yours. Geez, I would hate that. Cheri |

I much prefer normal length snowy winters to long hot humid summers, which is why I moved from Lung Guyland to upstate NY. LI has long humid summers, and too buggy to be outdoors unless you sit in a screened cage and constantly apply bug repellent. Here I enjoy the true equally spaced four seasons. Today is perfect fall weather, full sun, a blue sky with a few wispy white couds, and now it's 60ºF with a slight breeze, gorgeous kite flying weather. Last night there was a light steady rain for three hours, but I didn't mind as Thursday I had planted about a sixth acre of grass seed where my rental cottage stood. I'm hoping for some evening showers today too or I'll be out there watering with my big hose.... takes me about two hours of shuffling two sprinklers about. Seeds are lightly coverd with straw to keep the birds off. I had the electric service moved to the rear of the lean-to shed at the back of the garage and now the electric cable from my pole is buried. The boiler and fuel tank were removed so now I have a lot more room in there. There's a new self draining pressured water tank and a hose bib. I have a ventless propane heater in there too so I'm not using that chimney, but the electrician will be here next week to install a large LED fixture near the top of the chimney, the higher the fixture the further it throws light. Was cloudy before the rain arrived: http://i65.tinypic.com/mv10zc.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/qz3wx5.jpg http://i64.tinypic.com/14in9xh.jpg http://i64.tinypic.com/33ufog5.jpg http://i63.tinypic.com/2uzqof7.jpg For only 70 Watts this will throw a bright light all the way to my barn (350'). https://www.amazon.com/Hyperikon-Fix...02Z Y1DV2EY9H Shopped yesterday and picked up this lovely for Dinner Tonight: http://i63.tinypic.com/10p99nm.jpg |

Cheri ========= I used to live on a very small island in the middle of the Mediterranean sea. Darning the summers we were constantly wet. You would be wet getting into the shower and still wet when you have 'dried off' after the shower. Horrible -- http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk |

I was there last September and was impressed all to pieces with it. We were supposed to meet a friend in Monterey and had the option of driving up through the valley to Montery and then back down to Big Sur, about four hours from Santa Barbara, or to take the Cabrillo Hwy along the coast, which would have taken at least twice as long. I know the scenery is incredible, but I wondered how much we could take it and if it was worth it. As it turned out, we opted for the fast route and then took a drive down past Big Sur on a nice sunny day. It was amazing. It is the sort of drive that would be great at high speed in a sports car with the top down or on a motorcycle, but the reality is that 30-40 mph is challenging enough for most drivers. |

We made a "leaf peeping" loop of the USA and lower Canada a few years ago and it was truly a trip to remember. Everyone needs to see Niagara Falls from the Canadian side once in their life. I'm not that many years younger than you are, but hubby and I were just talking about making a specific visit to Washington DC to explore the parts of the Smithsonian we haven't seen yet, the new Black History museum, tour the White House (something I've done several times, but hubby never has) etc. DC is usually just a side trip for us, but it will be the destination this time. We've never been to New Orleans either, but that will be another trip. I also want to see White Sands National Monument in New Mexico http://www.americansouthwest.net/new..._monument.html and Vermilion Cliffs National Monument in Arizona (300,000 acres) the next time we tour the Southwest. http://travel.nationalgeographic.com...ument-arizona/ There's so much to see right here in the good old US of A! PS: I've been to Dinosaur National Monument in Utah. It was very interesting and it's pretty close to home. http://phenomena.nationalgeographic....urder-mystery/ -- I love cooking with wine. You always hear advertisements about various vacation destinations with the "white beaches." The beaches are never white though, just a very light brown. White Sands in NM though really is pure white sands. Looks like you are driving through snow but then you get out of the car and it's 90f+ degrees. Without looking it up, I think it's gypsum and not regular sand. Don't stay too long though...it's probably still radioactive. ;o |

Don't stay too long though...it's probably still radioactive. ;o My husband was at White Sands Test Facility on business once. He had to wear a radiation badge. You know that footage of an atomic bomb blasting horizontally through some cinder-block structure that you always see black-and-white footage of? He saw that site while he was there. Cindy Hamilton |

We might even stop and get out, because I want to touch it. -- I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food. |
