Grabbed a 500° metal skillet handle. Boy, do I feel stupid!
Left hand is burnt all to shit. Took a percodan (oxy+aspirin) and 3 shots o' Wild Turkey. I gotta put my hand in cold water to wash off the dried "aloe jell", which my friend swears on. The ice water is the greatest relief of all. My friend sez the aloe will prevent blisters and the pain will diminish in 4 hrs. Hell, the burn pain will subside on its own in 4 hrs. Boy, do I feel stupid! (oh, I sed that already) ![]() nb |

I burned my left index finger, top only, by spilling the spaghetti water on it. Did NOT have any cloth in my hand, so the water ran off right away, and I was already standing at the sink, so used the recommended treatment of cold water on it for more than 5 minutes. Spaghetti went down the disposal right away, so I missed dinner, but my finger is not nearly as bad as it could have been. Sorry yours is worse. But aloe jel OR anything else is really NOT GOOD for most burns. If a burn is bad enough for anything other than water, it's bad enough to see a Doctor. |

I am not a doctor but I have had enough booboos over the years. I always find that blisters and cuts heal much faster when bandaged. |

Restaurants commonly put skillets of meat in the oven to finish cooking. Most restaurant cookware does NOT have anything BUT metal handles, for jes this reason. It's also why most cooking schools teach their students to always grab a pot/pan with a cooking towel, a lesson I forgot. Most professional cooks drape the towel over their shoulder or tuck it in their apron. BTW, most cooks on TV are rarely professional or are using brand new home-style cookware from whoever is sponsoring the show. The only place I've seen my cookware is on nb |

I take it out and remove the top while I do something with the food in the pot. Maybe I am too used to doing it on the stove and forget that the lid has been in the oven and has not had a chance to cool enough to touch it. I learned to set the lid down and set a pot holder on top as a reminder that it is needed. |

I was excited to learn that All-Clad could go from stovetop to oven, but I don't use the oven very much, so it took me a while to put it into practice. By that time, I'd gotten used to grabbing All Clad pans by the handle without a mitt - so I grabbed it by the handle when I reached for it in the oven. YEOW! What was I thinking? I agree with Dave, but everyone's experience is different.
I spilled simmering tomato sauce (it had been on for hours; I was getting ready to can it) on my wrist. My doctor said to put a thick layer of Vaseline on it and cover it with gauze and then an elastic bandage. I got some Vaseline-coated gauze at the drugstore, and used that plus an elastic bandage, and left it on for a couple days without checking it. I changed it two or three times over the next week... it stopped hurting after a day, and it never blistered or left a scar. But others may have had opposite experiences. So I am saying this was MY experience. N. |

The reason I don't fry chicken anymore is because I got splattered in the 1980's when the pop of the chicken in the oil fused my silk blouse to my chest. OUCH! Blistered! I managed to slice the side/tip of my finger less than a week ago... was quite annoying having to keep a band aid on it until it healed up enough.
