Yep. This kinda reminds me of last week waiting at the supermarket checkout. The hipster couple in front of me had a pile of fresh vegetables and low fat dairy products... the only other item was one of those awful manufactured meat chubs of dog food. I wanted to punch them in the face, but sadly we have laws against that. |

It is made of wheat gluten, oil, sugar, soy sauce, and salt. It is thus high in protein. Its distinctive flavor and artificial "plucked duck" texture distinguish it from other forms of commercially available gluten products" Regardless, I'd try it out of sheer curiosity. Duck is one of my very favourite meats, not that I would expect mock duck to be actually duck-like. |

I think there's also some ancient Chinese wizardry involved in the production. Whether you'd like the flavour is another matter. |

Soon you'll be able to order your plant-based protein rare, medium or well done. And if you squeeze it right, you can hear a faint moo. |

Your concerns about meat production will pretty much resolve itself. Slaughtering animals for meat will be frowned upon as a savage practice - at least in the Western world. Oddly enough, smoking will be okay. ![]() |

You're close, Steve. I live on the bottom floor of a two-story building. Underneath my bottom floor is the basement. The basement is partly below and partly above ground level. Nobody lives in the basement. It's an open space (2100 sq feet). Mostly empty but sometimes used temporarily for company storage. It also contains the two giant water heaters for my building (24 apartments). Anyway, I live on the bottom apartment above the basement. It's about 6 feet above ground. I walk up 10 steps to get to my front door. No flooding problems here. |

Thanks Ed. Funny what you said above. As of this morning, still over half of my neighborhood was without power. Then at 9am, I went to the drugstore. On the way home, I stopped at my 2nd choice grocery store. They are still closed with no power. wth? |

My apartment is 1050 sq ft. Same as my next door neighbor. Basement is underneath us both. Basement = 2100 sq feet. |

After Sandy, we were without power for 11 days. Our neighbor's tree had fallen on our wires but they weren't pulled down (the power outage was counties wide), our Verizon cable wire was left hanging looow. All these tree service trucks going back and forth, I was thinking if our power comes back up but our cable is out for another two weeks because the cable is pulled down, I might just lose it. We saw a Verizon truck outside and Ron ran out and gave the guy 20 if he'd tighten up our cable wire. No truck that comes down our street's going to hit it now, it was higher than the electric wires. nancy |

There's no way it can be divided up into 24 apartments, not even 12 apartments, not even six apartments, not even three apartments, perhaps two 2 bedroom apartments. |

His particular building has the hot water heaters for the rest in his complex. There would be multiple buildings supports by 2 hot water heaters of a commercial level. When I lived in San Diego, the side of our apartment building had one of 6-8 commercial units across the complex. I think there were about 200 apartments total but individual buildings did not have their own. -- |

I don't know how the canned version compares to the frozen one, which is what we always buy. |

(10ft up) The animosity, was everyone *forgot* Gary was in just as much trouble but before we could tell how bad it was, it was too late even if he wanted to leave. Jill had options, he didnt. To have that trimmed out when I mentioned it, upset me. He's now posted and is ok. Damage on Dataw was not light, but we had far worse here with houses completely destroyed and Interstates with 10FEET of water depth in places. Roads and houses subsumbed to sink holes. I will admit, Dominion power has been outstanding at getting folks back on the power grid. It's frustrating to those not back yet, but they got nearly 1/2 the population back on within 2 days (worst was the high winds, worst outage levels were Monday morning, 720,000 in VB and half out, now just 19,000 out). -- |

Jill proabably is bored silly but she may have last second evacuated. You would not have had a warning as it was too fast. Damn the local weather casters. They always under evaluate. wxrisk was waring us 2 days earlier and even he was horrified at the later winds that took out that much power here. I am really impressed that Dominion power got so many back on line that fast since conditions mostly didn't allow them to do much until Monday around noon. Kudos to them! Carol -- |

No one besides Jill wondered if I was alive or dead after my state was slammed by Sandy, that's the way it is. I'm sure Gary wasn't upset we didn't know he was in a badly hit area. nancy |

Bet the dollr store on Rosemont (n PLaza?) has some great sales where the paper on the cans was damaged! I couldn't slosh that way per the news, until late Monday. -- |

You are correct. They won't ignore Dataw, but an area of say 25,000 residents wil take priority over one of 3,000. Sadly, that is how it is. I am pretty sure she is just waiting for power. I hope it's not too much of a trial there. Carol -- |

I minded that my alert was deleted for a regular here and trimmed to just Jill. I dont give a rats ass if any like Gary, he was missing and in a major damage area and it really bothers me that this was blown off by many. He's fine but his local grocery is still closed. Hopefully that gives a cluebat on what happened here. I have another local here (not on newsgroup) who has not checked in. Last note was walking to the bar along Great Neck. *shudder*. -- |
