We had an outdoor wooden hot tub at our cottage. Loved being in it
looking at the stars, clear as a bell night sky from where we were on
our little island called Wailing Widows Island Cindy should keep
the hot tub I say

Price is what killed my interest in kerosene. When I first arrived
here, from CA, I saw some kerosene "on sale". It was about $25 fer 3
gals. That's a tad over $8/gal! My mom had one of those kerosene
heaters. About 40K BTU. Almost new. I couldn't give it away.

If yer gonna keep no. 1 coal oil around, get some Alladin lamps:

I was gonna buy one, but after seeing the price of kerosene, here in
CO, I changed my mind.

It used to be a lot easier to find and at the same time a whole lot

Yeah. I usta buy kerosene from any/every Chevron/Standard station fer
around $1.70/gal. Even when gasoline and propane prices dropped thru
the floor, kerosene seemed to be immune.

Given that it is Cindy who has to pay for it, I reckon only she has they say

Yes. My problem with LED light is that it emits in a very narrow
range of wavelengths. Incandescent and halogen emit in a much
broader range of wavelengths, and looks much more natural.

My husband is a Licensed Quantum Mechanic (actually, has a
degree in electro-optics and lasers). He isn't crazy about
LED light, either.

Oddly enough, my head doesn't freeze. I have this stuff called "hair"
on the top of it. It's a pretty good insulator.

Standing in the shower doesn't sound nearly as relaxing as sitting
in the hot tub with my husband, drinking a lovely beverage and talking.

Uh... well... I'm not talking about kerosene or coal oil. I would

Hmmm. I thought "coal oil" was the Limey term fer kerosene. Janet?

Anywho, if you do not use no. 1 grade kerosene fer yer hurricane
lamps, what lamp oil do you use? BTW, "lamp oil" IS a common term fer
kerosene.

They can change the composition so it includes citronella, to repel
insects, and other chemical aromas to make yer "lamp oil" stink good.
It's still kerosene.

Look on yer bottle of lamp oil. I bet it's kerosene.

I use LED lights with a warm colour temperature, they look as good as
incandescents to me. The colder ones are another matter entirely.

That's not true, but the sentiment should be true, but unfortunately others
here can't stand it when somebody likes something they don't, or does
something differently than they do. LOL BTW, I was at the store this morning
and they had a small jar of Jif Maple Flavor for 1.49 so I bought it out of
curiousity. I must say it's good, not really maple to me, but it tastes like
a Bit-O-Honey chew, now...just not to eat it all in the next day or so.

Lamp oil and kerosene are two different types of fuel but can both be
used in lamps. Lamp oil is more highly refined and burns cleaner.

It too parts of NE NC days and some unfortunate souls weeks to dry out.

I'm in Elizabeth City - Oxford Heights, to be exact. Luckily our house
didn't flood but we live in the middle of the subdivision. People who
live close to the bridge and the creek flooded badly. We lost power for
over 24 hours and couldn't get out of the neighborhood until Tuesday AM.
