Default Hurricane Matthew: The Aftermath

That was fun! Yes, I'm still here. Comcast didn't get my internet
connection restored until around Noon10/13/2016.

Thanks to everyone who was concerned about me and Buffy.

No damage to my house. Just a bunch of branches (some fairly large) and
debris scattered all over my yard. All over everyone's yard. The
streets. You get the picture. I gather you've seen pictures. LOL

I have had several neighbors ask if I'd seen whatever about Dataw
online. Uh, no. I didn't get my Internet Gods back until around Noon. LOL

And yes, my patio furniture stayed put. It's a couple of chairs with a
small square table between them. They're heavy. Hurricane came
through, they didn't budge. Neither did my covered fire pit. (I didn't
mention that before, did I. Heh.) The cover didn't even budge. It was
weird.

The power went out in the wee hours on Saturday morning as the hurricane
moved in. It was very eerie sound hearing the winds soughing through
the trees. It was Halloween creepy.

We did *not* get a lot of rain. I've seen more torrential rain during a
just plain thunderstorm. There was no storm surge to speak of.

Still, the marina doesn't exist anymore. This is what is left of it:

And yes, as I peruse through some of the info you folks dug up, some
boats did wind up at the Lady's Island Airport. (I think it's funny
they call it "Frogmore International". Must be some sort of local joke.)

I was told 25 boats were tied up there when the hurrcane came through.

The marina is on the other side of the island. I must live in the lucky
middle.

The storm had pretty much moved on when I got up on Saturday morning.
There was still a bit of the tail of the hurricane tossing some wind
about. I had taken down the hummingbird feeder in preparation. It
hangs from a chain under the eaves in front of a big picture window.
Didn't want to take a chance it would start swinging around.

Suddenly there was a hummingbird at the window looking at me like "Where
the hell is my food?!" LOL So I hung the feeder back up. It didn't
take long before there were aerial battles going on.

I have been engaged in a bit of yard cleanup. Dataw is hauling away the
debris but request we help by raking it next to the street. My neighbor
was raking debris so I went over and helped her rake.

As for my freezer food... yes, everything thawed. I did have a 10 lb
bag of ice in it which barely melted. (The seal on that freezer is
fantastic) Everything in the freezer was still *very* cold.

I made a judgement call on what I should dispose of after the 4 day
power outage. I kept a few things such as butter. Butter is perfectly
fine if left out at room temp or frozen and thawed. We've had this
discussion before. LOL It also reminds me of discussions of a butter
bell. Heh.

I know the milk went bad as did the eggs. Wheh the power came back on
those things went promptly down the disposal. No word when the trash
pickup will resume.

Lots of us Jill! The rest in the path of it, came up pretty fast.

Yes. We have some areas still impacted. We were a day later than you.
One of the subdivisions had a man made lake and didnt provide for
drainage. They were kayaking the kids to the nearest road so they
could get on the school bus, then kayaking them back home. This was
last Thursday.

For use up north, it was more rain then some fairly high gusts.

Mot to worry. 4 days would have me toss most of it if i couldnt eat it
right away too. Save the butter just like you. Might save things
like whole pork shoulders if i could tell the core was still frozen.
