You should google him - I'll do it for you -
http://www.macleans.ca/culture/arts/...anders-fields/

That is a particularly poignant rendition for today, Remembrance Day.
It's his poet side, he was also a singer, sort of singing one hated or
liked, not much in between, I liked him.

He played a big part in an epiphany moment for me. AAMOF it was 6 years
ago today. I was lying in bed in the ICU after heart surgery and I was
feeling really low. I was worried that I was not going to make it. I had
my MP3 player but the battery was running low. I looked through the menu
and opted for a song from Jennifer Warnes' album Famous Blue Raincoat
(Leonard Cohen songs), First We Take Manhatten. All of a sudden I felt
better and confident that everything was going to be okay.

Here's Cohen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrLk4vdY28Q

And here's KD Lang singing the same song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3q7TRVOM9KQ

After Cohen heard her version he realised that he must have written it
for her.

KD Lang has disgusting diction, slurs speech, mispronounces words, and
elides vowels... plus I find watching "it" nightmarish.

=======================

I didn't notice that with Lang, but most people who sing 'Halleluja' say
'ya' instead of 'you' etc. Cohen doesn't do that. He sings it properly.

I missed out on what could have been a real treat. We went into Toronto
to do some family cemetery plot thing and met up with our nephew and a
cousin. Nephew was off to a free screening of a tribute to Cohen.
Unfortunately, we had to head home to tend to our dog.

I was a bit confused because I have his biography saying he died on the 10th
yet all the reports are that he died today.

You're strange, he put out at least three or four new albums in that

He didn't want the news released until his body had been returned to
Montreal from LA and buried next to his parents and grandparents.

I probably am different from the people that post here anyway. I was completely unaware of the activities of Mr. Cohen during the past decade. I was never a big fan. OTOH, there's no denying that my memory is failing with age. That's the breaks.

Beats me when he died. The only thing we can be reasonably sure of is that he's dead.

My unabashed loyalty to what is true lies deeply within my childhood upbringing. I lied to my mother about taking $.25 from the dresser drawer. It still causes me pain when I think of it over half a century later.

He didn't want the news released until his body had been returned to
Montreal from LA and buried next to his parents and grandparents.

Ok, but on our news they reported that he had died 'earlier today'!

I spotted his biography reporting his death on the 10th and downloaded it.

After all those years and the pain, I think it might be time to forgive
yourself. You have paid a harsh penalty.

Children aren't miniature adults, you can't be so hard on
yourself for things you did as a child And learned from.

Indeed. I do understand though. I think of things long gone which I can't
change and feel regret. I think as age progresses it becomes more
troubling.

That's nuts... your mom never noticed "$.25" was missing from a pile
of change, was it all pennies, nickles/dimes, a quarter... normal
people don't type 25¢ like that unless it's a fabrication... odds are
more likely your fercocktah story is a lie. You belong on the couch
with Dr. Phil. You'd be more believable and sound more normal had you
admitted how your mom caught you rummaging through her dresser
checking out her panties and bras. So did your mom commend you for
being a big boy now, did she model her undies for you to see how big a
boy you became, afterwards did she say let's not tell daddy... more
likely your mom gave you a quarter when you promised how it was "our
secret". LOL-LOL

The trade-off is that it makes me strive to be honest. That's a good thing.

We didn't keep piles of change at our house. Looks like you lose again. What did your mother teach you? She sure didn't teach you to respect other women. You consider them to be mostly a collection of body parts. She didn't teach you to not lie or mislead. She didn't teach you how to hold you liquor.. She didn't teach you how to live within society which is why you're forced to live away from regular folks.
