Default Duplicate kitchen tools

I bought myself another can opener (the cheap hand-crank kind) the
other day because it seemed like the one I already had was always in
the dishwasher. I then realized that I have two of a number of things
that you would usually own one of.

I have two blenders - a standard size one and a little smoothie-size
one. Same with food processors: a big KitchenAid and a little
KitchenAid that I use mainly for making hummus, parsnip puree, and the
like. I also recently acquired a second set of measuring spoons
because I got tired of washing the one set in the middle of baking
stuff.

Anybody else have a cupboard full of duplicate equipment? Frying pans
don't count!

Not so much the big electrics, but duplicate, even triplicate of smaller
stuff. Three sets of measuring cops, spoons, four spatula, three large
cutting boards, etc, etc.

Same here. Two large cutting boards and a smaller one,
two large cooking spoons, two large cooking spoons with
holes, 3 or 4 spatulas, 3 sets of measuring cups, etc.

Oh, well if we're not counting those I seek amnesty for my
collections of multiple glasses, mugs, vintage china and embroidered
linen tablecloths, napkins, old glass jelly moulds...oops, where were
we.

In terms of pure cooking tools we both cook and both buy them, so
there are some duplicates of things like whisks, knives, spatulas,
wooden spoons, baking tins and oven dishes, chosen by one or other of us
because we particularly like it. Some get used by both of us and others
by only one, the person who favours that particular one. You know what
men are like with gadgets.

We also now have his and hers jam pans, the one we've had forever and
the fabby new one he won last spring in a marmalade competition. First
time he'd ever made marmalade but I'm not bitter. I'm hoping to pass on
the old one to one of the kids but if there are no takers it will go to
the charity shop.

Yes, since it's likely both of us will be cooking simultaneously.
Two sets of measuring cups. About 5 sets of measuring spoons.
Three identical spatulas, and two that are different. His-and-hers
vegetable peelers (we have slightly different tastes). Two Microplane
graters. Two waffle irons, no waiting. Probably more, but that's
what comes to mind.

Sometimes, especially since our kitchen is a scant 9 ft x 9 ft. But
we're used to working close quarters from years of home improvement.

I have duplicate sets of Pyrex measuring cups and it's still
hard to find one sometimes. I haven't even seen the two cup version
in a while. Stuff hides in corner cabinets.

Griddle spatulas, when I replace those I get two. I have three
chef knives but probably everyone does. I have a large and a smaller
all clad roasting pan.

So not much. I do have two crock pots right now, got a new one at
Costco last week and I'll donate the old one.

First thing we made with the new one, Damsel's Italian beef. Mmmm!

She's big on Facebook. Here's the recipe:

or

http://tinyurl.com/2aruaur

I used beef base and the appropriate amount of water rather than
broth. Either way, it's delicious and has wonderful texture.

Duplicates live in the basement.
Those swing-a-way can openers need to be lubed when they come out of
the dishwasher and they will operate better than brand new... with a
toothpik dab drops of olive oil into all the rotating bearing
surfaces... you'll be amazed at how much easier they operate. I don't
put my swing-a-way can openers (3) in the dishwasher, I use a stiff
nail brush with dishwashing liquid to scrub-a-way schmutz. Actually
it's more important to wash can lids prior to opening as warehouses
are regularly fumigated/fogged with insecticide.

I did that yesterday but used thin sliced pork to make sandwiches...
sliced up a mess of those 'boneless' pork chops, seasoned pretty much
as Damsel's beef, and sauted them... plenty for today and the next.

My can openers aren't that kind. They are like this:

I don't have a swing-a-way but I, too, use a stiff 'tile'
brush to scrub the gears of my can opener. A quick rinse in
HOT water and stand it up in the dish drainer to dry.

Yes, I also wash off can lids before opening.

I have that type too, even with that nylon bushing still they work
better when lubed. And always wash the can tops... I wash them all at
once before putting them in my pantry. Last week there was a sale on
Bush's Chili Beans, ten cans/$10, I bought ten of each, kidney bean,
white bean, and black bean... an excellent product, especially for me
who likes to snack on beans from the tin for those times I don't feel
like cooking or washing dishes... makes for a healthful meal. They've
been advertizing chili beans on TV like crazy, Bush's are much better
than store brand chili beans, not very spicy but very tasty, easy to
spice up for those who enjoy the burn on the way out. And they don't
cheat, the can contains a full pound, not those cheating 14 1/2
ounces... to me that's ridiculous economics, the can, label,
processing, shipping, etc., costs more than 1 1/2 ounces of beans.
I'd rather pay a few pennies more for a superior product and I find
Bush's beans to be a highly superior product... far better than the
antiquated Heinz beans recipes.
