Well, I was talking about the old A&W drive-ins.
Don't say there are none though...

Yes, I do believe the Sonic (at least in my area) will bring the food to
the car in the parking lot. No roller skates or skimpy costumes,
though. I haven't eaten there but I have to drive past one to get to my
insurance agent's office. They seem to be doing an okay business. I do
not like their stupid television commercials.

Do yerself a favor and NEVER eat there!

I once took my late mom to a Sonic. I refused to order anything for
myself, as it all was all horrible combos at absurd prices. The only
way to get a decent price fer their crap food is to wait and receive a
discount flyer in the mail, which they send out all the damn time.

Did you even *read* the definition?

a : arriving at or having reached puberty
b : of or relating to puberty
2: covered with fine soft short hairs

If that definition doesn't describe a young girl I don't know what does.

You bring that "opportunity" on yourself posting all this crap about
your breast fetishes. No one really cares, Sheldon.

Not according to the many posts you have made over the years about about
how wonderful large breasts are.

I'd sure eat there. Too bad there ain't none on this rock. What you're paying for is a blast from the past experience that used to be common in the 50s and 60s. You pay for the experience, not the food. My guess is that these places take up a lot of acreage, which is why we don't have any Sonics over here.

Alternatively, the cynical person might say that you're paying to have energetic young folks serving you in your car because you're too lazy to get your fat ass out and waddle a few feet to their door. Maybe your car is filled with a bunch of whiny brats and taking them into a restaurant is just a very bad idea.

Sonic has been around quite awhile. I checked it out yesterday. Many
are independantly owned and not all use carhops anymore.

Yes, we know that. Not a place I would ever consider eating. Did you
look at the crappy menu?

As a teenager in the 60's we went to drive-in restaurants all the time.
We'd go to a movie and then take out date to El Rancho for a burger and
meet up with our friends. Big Boy's was the place to go to show off
your car. Guys would drive through just to see the cars there.

Today it looks crappy, but when I was 16 it would look like great food.
I'm not seeking one out to try.

I went to one several years ago, it's extremely forgettable. I do
remember the drive up atmosphere. I don't think anyone came to the
car to take an order, but I don't remember if we walked up to a window
to order or if there was some way to do it from the car. I don't even
remember how the food got to us. To be honest, I think we ate at
picnic tables underneath some kind of an overhang and we
ordered/picked up the food ourselves.

It's not a drive-in, but Johnny Rocket's will give you a 50's vibe.

Here, it was Mel's Drive In - which also had a starring role in
American Graffiti.

Now that's one hell of a good time! I can't say how that whole thing fits into a world with self-driving electric appliance/conveyances. Those days of cars and teens and burgers will be looked upon with great puzzlement in the future. OTOH, that common high school experience of knowing kids that get killed in car accidents will also be a thing of the past.

Me and my wife ate at McDonalds by ourselves today. It was like a banquet for only $11.18. I thought that was just wonderful.

My kind of people! :-D

Do you remember way back? Bill Clinton also LOVED McDonald's but they
made him quit shortly after becoming president. How sad that must have
been. ;o

They should have left him with McDonald's and made him lay off the other
goodies.

And probably directly due to all those McBurgers that he ate. :-D

Bummer!

And they do a great job too.

Well...both ekshually...

I mean they have to compete on price too.

They probably have about thrice the footprint of a typical Toxic Hell,
so that could be a valid observation.

But, how about these drive-ins:

Yeah..I don't think so...there hasn't been a thing invented that a
teenager can't misuse, hack, or make more dangerous, etc.

I suspect spontaneous electrocutions may become a fad due to battery
tampering.

You don't remember he had quadruple bypass surgery in 2004? He's a
vegan now.

When we were first married and a McDonald's was still a big deal,
there was a new one near us that put candles on their tables after
dark.

When I was recovering from bypass surgery there was a guy in there whose
wife was bringing in junk food for him. One day she came in with two
litres of chocolate milk, two bags of Doritos and a bunch of chocolate
bars. He was happily munch away on all that junk food when the doctor
can in and saw him and freaked out. The guy ended up signing himself
out of the hospital early and against the doctors advice. He couldn't
wait to get out of the hospital and have a cigarette.

Good. People like that don't deserve to have access to health care
when they just waste and tie up valuable resources. With any luck he's
no longer alive.

I ate at McDonald's again today. A Double burger and an ice cream treat. It cost me $3.14. I could have had a better meal for about 7 bucks but my time was limited for lunch.

I have closed down my office and am working for other companies. It's quite and education! It's less freedom for me but I think I fare better in a more structured environment.

It's rather amazing how many food places we have here. Hawaii is very much invested in its foods and the young people are melding the traditions of my generation with new ones of their own. The future of food shines quite brightly on this small rock.

We have a new-to-us Popeye's, and I absolutely love their chicken and
biscuits. They are a whole lot better than our solo KFC, which usually
makes me sick, so I don't go there anymore, although I do buy their coleslaw.

I didn't try any side dishes at Popeye's, but I expect the mashed potatoes are
like KFC's, with that odd plasticky taste.
