Default Christmas baking is done

I did just the traditional stuff that I like. Nothing too fancy. Last
month I made two batches of light fruitcake, laced it with brandy and
put it away to age. On Friday I made mincemeat tarts. On Saturday I made
two batches of shortbread that turned out amazingly well considering how
badly I mauled the recipe. Yesterday I made a batch of brownies. I
don't remember the last time I made brownies. I had one for dessert last
night and they are incredible.

I am counting on people coming by so we can serve them Christmas treats.
Otherwise, I am going to have a few million calories worth of baked
goods to eat. I am going to the gym in a few minutes to be a little
proactive.

I have to pick up a few stocking stuffers and some wine and then wrap
presents. Then I can sit back and watch everyone else scramble around
at the last minute.

Yesterday I made fruitcake cookies and like regular fruitcake
their flavor has improved just overnight. If I can stay out
of them I will take with me Christmas Eve and Christmas day.

Boy, I love those things. I don't usually get a chance to grab one though.

I'm having a hard time leaving them alone; I may have to make
another batch. The decision will have to be made by tomorrow
afternoon so I can pick up another bag of nuts.

Never had them, just learned about the concept less than a week ago.

Avoid cutting yourself when slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold them.

I have had a recipe for "fruitcake cookies" since the 50s; made them once, and
liked them, but there are so many other cookies I used to make at Christmas,
these fell by the wayside. The same thing goes for Mincemeat Foldovers ..
a cream cheese short-dough cookie that is cut into squares and then two opposite points
are folded over a teaspoon of filling. Man, I love mincemeat, but I am the only
one in the family who does. And the days when I made dozens of cookies are long
gone. Good memories, though. ;-))

This was my first foray into the fruitcake cookie domain.
Actually I like these a bit better than fruitcake and I
guess that's because they don't require ageing and easy
to grab and munch. There's not too many cookies I don't
like. :-)

Mincemeat is truly a favorite pie of mine. I've never
made one but have never passed up a slice when offered.
I'll take mine with or without a scoop of vanilla ice
cream; I ain't picky!

I'm glad you put brandy on it and not rum.
