OK, it's been a few weeks since I broke down and admitted that bread
WILL save hard brn sugar. It's been, what, a month, and that entire
bag of brn sugar is as soft as a baby's butt. So yes, one slice of
bread WILL soften an entire bag of brn sugar. Sure the bread is
mummified, but --bottom line!-- bread WILL save yer brn sugar.

I am not sure why so many people were averse to trying such a cheap and
easy trick. I have had the same half piece of bread in my brown sugar
canister for years and my the sugar stays soft. Sometimes it is had hard
dry chunks when I pour it from the bag, but within a day it is nice and
soft.

I don't try it because I don't need it. My brown sugar stays soft
without bread in it.

Just know notbob (and Dave).... once you soften the brown sugar
with the bread (only 1-2 days at most), you don't need to keep
that bread in there. It's done it's job and you can toss it out.

In a good sealed container, the sugar will remain soft.
If it ever does harden again, use a fresh slice. It's the
moisture in a fresh slice that softens the sugar.

My brown sugar rarely goes hard either. The couple of times it did
though, a piece of bread overnight softened it right back up. Toss
the bread once that happens and it stays soft on it's own.

Funny to think Dave still has some ancient mummified bread in
his container. LOL! :-D

Keep it in there and it keeps working. You can use the same piece for
years and it keeps doing it.
