So I give most folks a nice card with cash, I've never had anyone complain....I took a friend shopping for Christmas dinner vittles, upon arrival I handed them a hundred dollar bill, and said, "Have fun!" It's my way of repaying those who have assisted me in the past...
Some asked me to donate to their favorite pet charity of choice, so for several I've done that. These pet rescues and shelters are always operating "on the edge", with many hungry mouths, medical care, and rent and light bills to pay, not even the biggest pet organization is EVER financially "comfortable"... [ The only "human" charity/non - profit I gift is a literacy group, they do important work in teaching folks to read, write, and do their arithmetic....literacy is the KEY to success in life... ] I've purchased a few of the Vincent Price "Come Into The Kitchen" cookbooks, most everyone I know loves cooking and movies - and Vincent Price! - so 'tis a perfect gift, all are thrilled upon receiving it: http://store.doverpublications.com/1606600974.html "The well-known actor and seasoned gourmet invites families to come together in the heart of every home €” the kitchen €” with another fabulous guide to cooking. Vincent Price and his wife, Mary, authors of the classic A Treasury of Great Recipes, turn their attention to four centuries of traditional American dishes in this charming cookbook. Starting with the chowder, stewed cod, and hasty pudding of early America, the collection ranges through scrapple, apple pandowdy, and other regional favorites of the nineteenth century to the recipes of modern America, from vichyssoise to corned beef cheeseburgers to cherries jubilee. An informative and atmospheric introduction precedes each historical section, followed by the straightforward, easy-to-follow recipes. In addition, the Prices present a complete section on wines that features the story of wine making as well as helpful information on how to shop for domestic or imported vintages and which to serve with various foods, plus advice on crafting homemade wine. Richly illustrated with photos of historic American kitchens and numerous whimsical images, this edition includes a new Foreword by Victoria Price, Mary and Vincent's daughter, as well as a new Introduction by Darra Goldstein, Founding Editor of the journal Gastronomica. A Calla Edition, originally published by the Stravon Educational Press, New York, 1969 edition..." I like the City Lights poetry books, they are small, so easy to read whilst commuting or at relaxing, many excellent choices, I like "Lunch Poems" by Frank O'Hara: http://www.citylights.com/book/?GCOI=87286100400810 "Lunch Poems, first published in 1964 by City Lights Books as number nineteen in the Pocket Poets series, is widely considered to be Frank O'Hara's freshest and most accomplished collection of poetry. Edited by the poet in collaboration with Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Donald Allen, who had published O'Hara's poems in his monumental The New American Poetry in 1960, it contains some of the poet's best known works including "The Day Lady Died," "Ave Maria," and "Poem" [Lana Turner has collapsed!]. These are the compelling and formally inventive poems€”casually composed, for example, in his office at The Museum of Modern Art, in the street at lunchtime or on the Staten Island Ferry en route to a poetry reading€”that made O'Hara a dynamic leader of the "New York School" of poets..." More poetry selections: http://www.citylights.com/catalog/?category_id=246 And lastly, these Dover bookmarks are nifty, high quality, and just a coupla bucks: http://search.doverpublications.com/...ords=bookmarks So, what about you...??? -- Best Greg |

I don't have many to shop for anymore. My adult children get a gift card and a stocking full of things, nostalgic and/or needed. My sister and her husband have agreed we'll make charitable contributions in lieu of gifts; this year, I gave to K9s for Warriors. My "adopted" neighbor (disabled/ill young man) got a "pot roast kit" so he can have a good Christmas meal and I covered the $$$ for a medical treatment.
