Default A short break

I have a few minutes to rest before Christmas brunch. I had a coffee
and some raisin bread toast to tide me over while I baked our family
favourite, an apple coffee cake. Then we opened our presents. I have put
some of them away. Wine and liqueurs went down to the basement. New
underwear has been put away into the appropriate drawer some of the old
pairs purged.

The coffee cake is cooling and my son is cooking up some bacon and eggs.

I almost wish it was a lot colder today because I got a nice warm hiking
sweater and a great parka. However, we are in the midst of a warm spell.
It is going to be 51F tomorrow.

We are going to have a quiet afternoon at home and then head over to my
brother's for supper.

That's quite a temperature change! It was 75F yesterday, supposed to be
70F today. I don't want a blizzard but it would be nice, just once, to
be able to see a little snow again.

Sounds like fun. I don't do anything special for Christmas. I used to
make a Christmas dinner, even just for myself. But this weather simply
isn't conducive to the "season". I'll probably make some Christmas
tacos. LOL

Last Christmas, I wasn't hungry and didn't feel like cooking.
I ended up eating a PBJ sandwich and some chips. LOL
I never would have guessed I'd ever sink that low on Christmas.

Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah, or whatever trips your trigger. ;-))

We have dirty snow and 49 degree misty rain. I had family over last
night and we had Chinese takeout, so my meal today will be leftovers,
which suits me just fine.

My son is hunting dawn to dusk, my DIL doesn't cook very much, and
I don't spend hours on my feet any more, so takeout suited us just fine.
And of course our favorite Chinese place will be open the entire holiday.

Warm here too (for us) and rainy. Had fun with my new toys!

One I got myself and Don put together last night (we open one gift on
Xmas eve here). A new computer chair. I carefully measured and it's
low enough for comfort. Thats a problem to find if you are 5ft1. The
are so worried a big guy can't fit the chair that most suck for lumbar
support (seat too long to fit to the back) or too tall (leaves your
legs free hanging which is very uncomfortable after a bit).

Most of our gifts are practical but there were fun things added in.
Charlotte for example is just starting her job hunting now that she has
her degree. She got a selection of very well made purses (freecycle but
perfect new condition) that are workforce professional, also 2 sets of
earrings in multi colors and balls or a sort of filligree and a single
set of largeish pearl. Several tops that will fit her style yet look
polished. She also got some games and DVD's she wanted.

Don got a snowblower, 2 racks for the shed, a Miami Dolphins hoodie,
and a grunch of fishing tackle parts (he likes to build his own lures),
some good gloves (fingers free below last knuckle) for fishing or just
wearing and 2 books.

I did well too with some of the purses, 2 sweaters for work, a skirt, a
dress and my new chair plus some other things and frankly, the snow
blower is a group gift.

My best gift? Watching Don's eyes light up as he unwrapped the Miami
Dolphins hoodie!

Last Christmas was the first in many years that I did not spend with family.

All I ate that day was homemade fennel seed bread and butter. I ate it
throughout the day until it was gone.

On the one hand, it was pretty pathetic. On the other hand, it was the
best Christmas meal I've ever had.

We had our presents opened and were eating breakfast casserole and
fruit salad by 6:30 am. If I recall correctly, we slept in until
about 4:30.

Lunch was lentil soup.

Tonight: grilled shrimp marinated in garlic and lime, tossed salad,
and probably some crusty white bread.

Heavy snow here although it has stopped this morning. All the
ingredients for the seafood lasagne are ready for its construction:-)
My 40 yr old snow boots have started to disintegrate so I will have to
buy some new ones. If they last 40 years, I won't be around to find out.

Family all together chowder evening yesterday now today turkey and
trimmings at my grandson and his wifes, with her parents as well, very
pleasant but way more food than I normally eat. Quite lively with
their four month old lab puppy, nice doggie but boisterous
