In a recent thread drift someone mentioned milk and referred to it as a
refreshing beverage. I am one of the (apparently few) adults who find milk to be refreshing. It does, however, have to be *very* cold. I drink ice water all day long. I have a glass of ice water next to my bed when I go to sleep in case I get thirsty. I do not like soda pop, diet or otherwise. I do like some fruit juices, cranberry juice in particular. Apple juice is nice on occasion. So is pineapple juice. I find orange juice to be too acidic. I drink white wine (but not as much as some would have you believe) and I don't really consider it "refreshing". So, what's your refreshing beverage of choice? Jill |

I seldom have soft drinks. I have only recently started buying orange juice again, but I only have about half a glass per day. I have an occassionally slug of sour cherry juice. Most of the time I drink water. --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus |

Asparagus water? Bubbly or otherwise. I despise iced tea. Blasphemy for a person living in the South, I know, but true. I simply do not like iced tea. Sweet or unsweetened, no thank you. I also don't want an "Arnold Palmer" (half tea, half lemonade). Jill |

If I do drink a soda, it will be a room temperature soda poured over a lot of ice to get rid of some of the bubbles and the melting ice takes the edge off the sweetness. Getting back to the original question, plain cold water is #1 in our house. Nothing quenches thirst better. We do have iced tea, mostly in summer but also at other times. I enjoy the occasional adult beverage but I don't really consider them as refreshing. If thirsty, I always have a glass of cold water first. |

At night there's a liter sippy bottle of plain room temperature water at beside. In the morning I drink two large mugs of black coffee. At about 10 AM I switch to plain ice water with a quarter fresh lemon squeezed in. That lemon rind gets replenished with more ice and water until about 8 PM when I switch to ice with Diet Sprite and a new wedge of fresh lemon and a couple glugs of Crystal Palace Vodka. Naturally some days I have different beverages, depends on time of year and whether I'll be home or not, but at night it's always plain water. In warm weather when I spend all day mowing it's the same plain water, but when I'm finished and have washed the tractor and put it away it'll be about 5 PM I may on occasion if it's very hot out grab a can of ice cold beer... it's difficult to mow after 5 PM as when the sun is low it's difficult to see mowed from unmowed. I start mowing at 10 AM because by then the dew has evaporated, can't mow wet grass, I mow until 5 PM. That's a good seven hours but I mow for two full days each week. That's just one of my retirement jobs... I don't believe in retiring to laze in a chair looking out a condo window all day, everyone I knew who did that didn't last a year. |

I never was a big soda drinker, maybe a couple in the warmer months, or when having a mixed drink, OJ gives me heartburn, always has. If I was looking for refreshing, my choice would be iced tea. Except at breakfast, it's what I drink with almost all of my meals. I very rarely feel thirsty, so I have a timer set on my phone to remind me every couple of hours to drink water. At work I make do with chilled tap water from the drinking fountain, but at home it's a glass of ice water. Although this time of year the ice is barely needed; the water from the tap is about 40 F. Although this time of year the ice > is barely needed; the water from the tap is about 40 F. Guess I'll join in here too. Water is the refreshing drink for me when I'm thirsty. I like it cold but not ice water. In winter, tap water is good as is and even overnight by my bed it's fine temp. In summer when it's hot, I'll fill up my 20oz glass and add just one ice cube, that's all. 1-2 cups of coffee each morning. That's enough. At work, I always take about 10oz of V-8 with pepper added. Nice to sip on and finish for lunch. I also keep a 2-liter bottle of diet orange soda to sip on occasionally at work. One bottle last me about 10 workdays. I never drink soda at home. Most drinks for me is just water though - nature's champagne. Oh and beer... doctor's orders - 2 a day or 1/2 aspirin. Guess which one I choose? ;-D |

Jill, mine is sparkling cranberry juice by Ocean Spray, diet version. Have you
tried it? We can't get it all the time here, OS saying they only deliver to both coasts, but they periodically supply my store's warehouse....I ordered 4 doz. cans from a supplier on Amazon with free shipping. Do you know how much weight that is? I was tickled to get it. Besides cranberry, they also make some of their cranberry blends in sparkling versions. The diet has only 10 calories a can. N. |

Perhaps I'll buy some club soda to mix with the cranberry juice I have to give it a little fizz. I occasionally like to drink club soda on the rocks with lime. ![]() Jill |

Refreshing, hmm. I suppose that would be a good beer, a cup of tea, or just plain old water. I've been making lots of smoothies since it's warmed up here, which usually consists of berries, Greek yoghurt and almond milk (sometimes macadamia or cashew milk). I guess that could be called refreshing on a hot day. |
