I don't understand why they're not being arrested for poisoning
people. Just because lots of people are dumb enough to eat that shit,
is no reason to poison them.

Yer surprised!? Reasearch the additives Burger King heaps on their
fries.

OTOH, since when is MSG a "brain-toxin"??

I bet Michelle gives herself coffee enemas.

Lots of lies and half-truths on that blog...read it at your peril.

I reckon it is at least 30 years since I ate in one. I took my two
oldest grandchildren to Florida one winter and based on their ages,
that is how long I remember being annoyed because I had a coffee
that was undrinkable, I see they acknowledged that and changed
somewhere along the line.

I've had good and bad coffee at McDonald's, years ago. It seemed to
depend on the person in charge of the coffee.

Last summer we were on a road trip and I stopped at a McDonalds to use
their washroom. My wife wanted a coffee, so I had one two. We also
picked up a couple pastries. We both remarked on how good the coffee was
and how surprisingly good the pastries were.

McD's went down the same road as Starbuck's. IOW, they changed to
"super-autos". These are espresso/coffee machines that do it all,
including grind the beans. It's a 'burger-flipper's' dream. Push
button, deliver espresso/coffee.

Problem with 'super-auto's' is, they are only as good as the
maintenance man. Crappy support, crappy coffee.

I've had both good and undrinkable coffee from both places. If it's
good, make 'em maintain the quality.

I am not a fan of McDonalds and have not eaten there in decades. I had
been hearing for some time that their coffee had improved a lot. I
finally gave it a try about two years ago while killing time waiting to
meet a friend to go hiking. I was not impressed. Then when my wife and I
had it last summer I was impressed. It wasn't just a lot better than I
had expected of better than my previous try. It was really good.

That was my experience recently when I drove to BC to see my son and
family. I will now make a point of seeking McD on long trips rather than
buying gas station/convenience store coffee.

Disgusting!! Nothing other than potatoes and oil should be in a french fry!

Part of the reason I call them McCraps!

It is not a flavoring but a flavor enhancer and it is considered
natural. Probably the most controversial ingredients around, deserved
or not.

McCrapos coffee is really not too bad now. I sampled some when a client of mine bought be a cup. Not bad! A LOT better than it was 35 years ago when it was atrocious!

Never ceases to amuse me how defensive some people can get over a
faceless corporation that has the gall to describe their business as
a 'restaurant' and sells complete shit to hapless consumers

I had a look at that link and it's technically correct (for the U.S
market at least) other than that MSG is still open for debate. What
aspect of it do you specifically object to? Is it REALITY that bothers
you?

So it's not fake, it's not scare-mongering, it's not a smear campaign.

This is why I don't want to know what is in the foods I eat. The only thing that matters is does it taste good and will it kill me. McDonald's fries taste so-so and it ain't killed me yet. It meets my requirements as food. If I haven't eaten anything in awhile, those fries will taste awesome!

TOTALLY fake and scare-mongering.

===================

Is that list of ingredients wrong? If so that blogger will be prosecuted
and have to pay out massive sums to McDonalds.

It is not a flavoring but a flavor enhancer and it is considered
natural. Probably the most controversial ingredients around, deserved
or not.

I use MSG for some of my dishes. I have read the horror stories here about
it, but it doesn't seem to have hurt me ... *twitch* *twitch* *twitch*

Salt. Prepared in Vegetable Oil (Canola Oil, Corn Oil, Soybean Oil,
Hydrogenated Soybean
Oil with TBHQ and Citric Acid added to preserve freshness),
Dimethylpolysiloxane added as an antifoaming agent.
*
CONTAINS: WHEAT AND MILK.
*Natural beef flavor contains hydrolyzed wheat and hydrolyzed milk as

This is why I don't want to know what is in the foods I eat. The only thing
that matters is does it taste good and will it kill me. McDonald's fries
taste so-so and it ain't killed me yet. It meets my requirements as food. If
I haven't eaten anything in awhile, those fries will taste awesome!

Alarmist bullshit. The two scariest things in the ingredients list
are sodium acid pyrophosphate and dimethylpolysiloxane.

The Material Safety Data Sheet
<http://www.sciencelab.com/msds.php?msdsId=9924954>
for sodium acid pyrophosphate indicates that it is, yes,
hazardous in its pure, powdered form. Mice have to ingest
2650 mg/kg for it to be toxic. Mickey D's doesn't say
how much is in their fries. A very good question when
contemplating this food additive is: "What happens to it
during frying?" I don't know. Lots foods are toxic when
raw, but harmless when cooked. Perhaps this is the same.
Incidentally, sodium acid pyrophosphate is an ingredient in
some baking powders.
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disodium_pyrophosphate>
Looking at its chemical formula, it doesn't seem very
bad to me.

Here's the MSDS for dimethylpolysiloxane:
<http://www.sciencelab.com/msds.php?msdsId=9925827>
And the Wikipedia page:
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polydimethylsiloxane>
y'all can do your own homework on this one. I have
to say that of the two, this one looks more worrisome
to me, since it's an organic compound.

It's used in caulk. I don't know how much
caulk I've gotten on my skin over the years, but it's
probably a much higher dose than you get from eating
French fries.

Here's another good question: Are any of these scary
compounds actually worse than the ones that form naturally
when you fry a plain old potato at high temperatures in
oil?

I wonder what her credentials actually mean. Yeah, she's got a PhD.
It could be in underwater basketweaving.

Let's see. She lists
DNM, which appears to be Doctor of Natural Medicine, or perhaps Doctor
of Naturopathic Medicine.
RNCP, which is Registered Nutritional Consulting Practitioner
ROHP, which is Registered Orthomolecular Health Practitioner

I think you can get those credentials over the internet.

I'm a little curious about what "orthomolecular health" is, but
it probably would just make me angry if I found out about it.
Still, better to know than not know. Yep, I was right:

Although not really a fast food joint, there is a place called East
Side Marios - convenient for lunch, large enough menu most groups
everyone can find something they like. I always had the calamari
appetiser because I prefer to eat in the evening.

Imagine my surprise when Marketplace did a reveal about calories in
various food joints and ESMs came out at 1500 calories for the five
squid rings on a bed of shredded lettuce! I know squid is not as low
in calories as fish but, 1500 calories??? More than a days worth of
calories for me. Never been back, felt almost betrayed.

Enough for what? To decide that all that crap in McDonald's
fries makes them dangerous?

I eat at McDonald's only about twice a decade, when I'm on the
road and desperate for quick food. It tastes terrible (which
is sufficient reason not to eat it), but it gets me through
to a real meal. It's reliably mediocre, which can be a
boon in a strange location.

I really just want people to use their critical faculties
rather than re-posting links to bullshit misinformation,
or to use those faculties when reading that misinformation.
