Funny, my brother was talking about getting a pressure cooker so I
looked around online to see what's recommended. That Insta Pot
came out tops in some consumer test.

Not to hijack your thread and thanks for the heads up, but what is
the pressure cooker brand people like here? Fagor? He would
like the interior to be stainless for whatever reason.

You're right, I have heard that name a lot, I'll pass it along.
Thanks.

definitely not an electric one. Those things are enormous space hogs.
I can't recommend a new brand, I've been using my Mirro since the 60s.
I would definitely recommend a 6 quart at least, no smaller.

The listings say these items are used. What's the deal with that?

I've had a Fagor for years, and I'm very pleased with it.
Unlike some, it's also induction-compatible.

The discount on those items must truly be deep.

Great advice, thanks! I'll make sure he knows to get a larger one
rather than smaller, especially as they've got 3 kids.

S.V., some sellers thru Amazon are just ordinary people, like on eBay, or retail
outfits that are second-hand shops. Many of the electric or mechanical items
will also say refurbished, or factory-reconditioned. You pays yer money and you
takes yer choice.

I have a seldom used Fagor (it turned out that I'm not big on pressure
cooking), but if I was looking today - I'd buy an Insta Pot because it
has so many other functions. All of them slow cook, so I'd definitely
buy the one with a yogurt setting.

A few months ago America's Test Kitchen did a testing on pressure
cookers. While I cannot remember the brand they recommended I do
remember they said to not buy an electric model. Don't ask me
why I can't remember they said to not buy one, just not to.

I have an old model Presto which I use often.

It's tough finding an induction ready pressure cooker. Most of them are made of aluminum. The steel ones cost about 40% more. OTOH, the oven in my Samsung induction range gorked out so perhaps I should just change the range and get a primitive range - just like the old days.
