The Kitchenaid Torrent Blender
http://www.kitchenaid.com/countertop...rrent-blender/
I'll have to see some demos of this before I understand the purpose. I
clicked on the small icon in some literature because I thought it was
one of those blenders we used to see used at soda fountains.

8if I were in the market for a blender, I would certainly give it a serious look.
However, I use my blender only for crepes, it seems. I don't drink or make
smoothies. Or icy drinks. And my blender resides in a cupboard, so it isn't
terribly convenient. But when I need one, or a guest wants to use it, it's
not really replaced by any other appliance.

You're in my category, I use mine for Yorkshire pudding (didn't think
about crepes, I use a whisk) and Margaritas... can't tell you the last
time I did that.

Some 55 years ago I was given a top of the line Cousinart food
processor and an Oster blender as wedding gifts... the food processor
long ago went into the trash, the Oster blender is still going strong.

He said his was a Cousinart. His cousin Bernie made it for him using
parts from an old washing machine.

Perhaps it wasn't a Cousin... I used it maybe 5-6 times and tossed the
worthless POS in the trash, was a long time ago... I have no use for a
food processor, can't do anything I can't do better and faster with a
chefs knife, a meat grinder, and a blender.

That is one appliance I wouldn't want to be without.

The price on this machine is $499.99. Now, I want to know what the

Correct, I still have the one I purchased in 75. I replaced the blade
once a few years back. It still gives excellent service and I never
felt the need for a blender since I had it.

Nothing that I can't get on my old Cuisinart FP. My neighbour bought
a Vitamix, also very expensive, and he gave me a demo, can't say it
made me want to buy one.

My son & d-i-l use a blender for smoothies and the first 2 blenders
didn't last long so they bought an expensive one, possibly a vitamix. It
has lasted for several years now and was worth the extra expense.

I believe that is what my neighbour bought his vitamix for and soups
but I don't do smoothies. I do have a kitchenaid stick blender and
use it seldom, that's what I would use for a cream soup. Thinking of
blending soup, must make some Delia Smith Leek and Potato soup soon

my grandsons make smoothies for themselves for breakfast and after
school. The fruits and vegetables they put in the mix give the
machine a good workout.

Hmmmm..... I've yet to see a beet smoothie at JambaJuice and I thought
carrots were 'juiced', first.

I thought smoothies were made with bananas and yogurt. OTOH, I
definitely do not get out much.

not straight carrot or beet. You have a mix of veggies, dark greens,
fruit, ice and milk/yogurt, maybe honey. You don't peel or core
anything. Run the machine until everything is smooth and no lumps,
bumps, pips or fiber present. Drink
It isn't the old banana, ice and orange juice anymore.

Remember how any drink served in a conical glass with a stem became some
sort of martini? The smoothie has suffered the same demise. Throw a
bunch of stuff in a blender and whiz it up and it is a smoothie.

I occasionally make smoothies with yogurt, ice, a bit of honey, and
fruit. I usually use a banana and add things like blueberries, pineapple
or mango.

Looks like Kitchenaid's answer to the Vita Mix. I'll take the vita mix, the video was not impressive at all.

Puh-leeze... any cheapo blender can puree whatever veggies-fruit for
smoothies. Thing is larger more powerful blenders can puree a larger
quantity faster is all.

Default Pureed food New to me, the latest and greatest?

I find myself in a situation where I might have to come up with
pureed meals for someone. Any pointers where to start with that?
Should I look for a baby food book? I guess I could pick up one of
those pricey blenders if it was necessary. Or a Ninja?

When my grandchildren were babies I sometimes would cook extra for us
then puree and make ice cube sizes for them. If you were doing it for
an adult might be nicer to do each flavour individually, for them I
just mixed it all up. I never had an expensive vitamix or such, just
put the food in Old Faithful, the original Cuisinart FP Now, to
create less mess I would use my KA stick blender then throw the metal
part in the dishwasher.

Ninja is a great inexpensive way to go. I've never had to puree food
but a Ninja does a great job of making snow from ice cubes for my
margaritas.
I'd search the 'Net first before buying a book. Even check to see if
Vitamix has some recipes on their web site. If you are just doing raw
food, check 'juicing. or 'smoothies.' Look what I found just typing
'pureed meals' into my search engine.

Not if the person is an adult. We have different nutritional
requirements from a baby (and tastes). There are umpteen sites for
Dysphagia, such as

http://nutilis.com/swallowing-difficulties/

http://nutilis.com/recipes/

http://www.smoothefoods.com/

with recipes and serving suggestions. There are also businesses
supplying such foods ready made.

No need, you can use a cheap blender or grinder designed for baby food.
They tend to be cheaper because babies only require such food for a very
short period.
If you have a food processor its attachments may include a special
small bowl and blade ideal for the job (mine does).

I happened to be in Costco this morning and spied a Nutribullet Prime.
I think it will be good enough since I picture I'll be blending tofu
and vegetables.

She eats tofu all the time so I'm not hitting her with something new.

Thanks for your help. I don't want to just go about blending a bunch
of stuff that is going to be horrible.

This is the same wench who made me sit in front of cold liver, now
she's a picky eater! Go figure. Heh.

Gotcha.

Thanks very much.

I didn't spring for the super expensive appliance. Seems like overkill
for something like this, but I did get one meant to grind food into
smoothies perhaps easier than that regular blender.

My food processor is a bit on the unwieldy side for this as whoever
is around will be using it.

Thanks again for the suggestions.
