First attempt ... nahhh! I chewed a little at the end until she came to see
what I was eating and offered it. She took it, placed it gently on the floor, nosed it around a little ... and then ignored it LOLOL You know already what a very strange girl she is <g> I will chop some raw carrot up and mix it with her dinner ... which contains cooked carrot. Thanks for the idea but I won't give up yet ![]() -- http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk |

It's easier for the body to get the nutrients from them cooked.

I like raw carrots. I am not crazy about them cooked. They aren't too bad when roasted but I don't care much for them boiled. I will eat them if they are served to me but I wouldn't bother cooking them. |

In article >,

Canine digestion is significally different from human. Right from when food enters the mouth, the dog system is designed to process and digest much larger tougher material. https://www.vetinfo.com/dog-digestive-system.html Janet UK |

In come things, cooking reduced the amount of Vitamin C, but it helps to break down cell walls to help us get at the anti oxidants. The beta carotene in carrots and the ferulic acid in asparagus are more easily absorbed if they have been cooked, preferable boiled or steamed. Slow roasting or stewing tomatoes help us to get the antioxidant lycopene, but loses some of the Vitamin C. Other vegetables are more nutritious if they are eaten raw. Some of the cruciferous family have more cancer fighting glucosinolates when eaten raw. Garlic loses allicin when cooked, so should be added at the last minute. |

If she enjoys them as a chew treat, great. Some dogs (mine was one) also enjoyed a small ice cube on a hot summer day Janet US |

Cooked tomatoes are healthier than raw ones too because the lutein is changed from cis to trans or is it trans to cis?

I like raw carots, in salads, as slaws, and plain old carrot sticks. I use a lot of carrots in soups and stews. I also use carrots in baked goods, cakes/muffins. Rather than grating it's much easier to pass them through my meat grinder. I buy carrots in five pound bags, they are larger and in better condition, and cost less than in small bags... this week a five pound bag is $3.59. |
