It's very much a Dutch winter traditional. But I was raised on 50/50
Dutch and Indonesian food and always preferred Indonesian. The only
Dutch thing I've ever made is boerenkool (kale+potato mash), to
impress my wife with refined Dutch cuisine

I made some snert last year. It was okay, but French Canadian pea soup
made with yellow peas is much better IMO.
