Default Happy Valentine Day

I am sorry that most of you did not have a Valentine Day dinner as good
as mine. My sweetie picked up some huge shrimp and some asparagus. I
didn't have a problem deciding whether to measure by weight or by volume
or to use Imperial or metric because I pretty well faked everything. I
melted some butter and chopped up two nice big cloves of garlic. I
snipped the tips and peeled off spines on some snow peas and sliced up
some red peppers. I heated some butter and EVO in a pan with a small
pinch of dried hot chili flakes. When the fat was bubbly I tossed in
the red pepper, then the shrimps and later the peas. There were served
in a bed of Basmati rice with a side of steamed asparagus.

But Dave, I'm sure someone *did* someone weigh the shrimp and the
asparagus at the time of purchase. LOL

I'm glad you had a good dinner. I'm also glad you chose Basmati rice
since it allegedly doesn't contain as much arsenic as some other rice.
Maybe your Valentine's Day dinner won't kill you.

Happy Valentines Day!

I don't see any valentine shrimp so I don't believe. Was most likely
canned cheapo flaked tuna with a mega gob of mayo.

Nice. We had leftovers. Valentine's Day just isn't important to us.

Wow. Really?.... ;-/
Those meals sound so cool-kid (bragging), touchy-feely and even
a bit *** to me. Actually, YOUR meal sounds so VERY bragging
and even very ******* to me. lololol! You Scottish phony, you!

Let's read this one again (it's a classic):

I love that. Thanks for the funny.

I stopped by McDonald's and bought 2 double cheeseburgers and
2 large fries with tons of salt and pepper. oh baby, yeah! ;-D

Oh, and some bread pudding with 'one too many eggs' with
some vanilla ice cream.

Is it an American thing? Although retailers in other countries love to
import it.

Yeah...McDonald's food is so darn evil. Note: I didn't really eat
there yesterday but I did think about it. It would probably have
tasted better that what I really had for dinner.

I probably will stop by there within the next few days. :-D

I'm not sure how to interpret that. Many holidays are commercial
ventures to suck money from the participants. While i try to make every
day like Valentines, it is a good excuse to go little overboard for my
sweetie.

I worked a few hours in the morning but came home with lunch and
flowers. Granddaughter and fiance stopped in for a visit. Later we had
a nice dinner and chocolate dipped strawberries for dessert.

My Valentines meal was coddling my husband with some of his favorite
foods as he started a low level chemo for skin cancer.

-BBQ pork (home made, from the freezer)
-Fresh 'Jewish rye' (from the bread maker then baked in the oven)
-Steamed Brussells Sprouts and small carrots rolled in olive oil
-Strawberry Ice Cream

May not sound fancy, but it's real just like you having fun with McDs.

They are having two for one Papa Burger meals at A&W on Tuesdays right now.
I almost went there but was too lazy, so made a semi-boneless leg of lamb
instead. DH does not like lamb, so he had some of the salmon he caught
awhile ago, salad and rice. I had lots of lamb left over, so froze it for
further use. Sounds like everyone had a nice meal on Valentine's Day.

Total spending for Valentine's Day was predicted to be
$18.2 billion, or an average $136.57 per person.

The power of marketing. We've been inundated with
jewelry ads on television for weeks. Apparently, if
you're not willing to drop a few kilobucks on diamonds,
you don't really love your partner.

No judgment of others' relationships is express or implied.

I got my hair cut after work yesterday, and overheard a
very sweet young man describing the plans he had to make
his girlfriend feel special on their first Valentine's Day.
I forbore to tell him that the most memorable (but perhaps
least romantic) Valentine's Day I ever had involved snaking
out the kitchen drain in our crawlspace.

I expect I'll get flowers within the next few weeks. Every
couple of months I come home and there are some in a vase
in the living room.

I supposes the retail industry thought it was too long between money
spending events in February. Easter must be next.

St. Patrick's Day is considered a good excuse to drink
too much beer (probably dyed green). There's a small
market for cardboard "leprechaun" hats and the like.

Is it about the nice things you do for the love of your life, or is it
the fear of retribution if you don't do something special?

All churches and ethnicities add their own holidays, I guess.
According to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, every Friday
is a religious holiday. Let's hope retailers never realise that.

Yes, you are. I remember. So is Oph. So how did you two
end up in Scotland? Is it a nicer area of the UK?
I have/had 2 close friends that grew up in Manchester.
One lives in Canada now.
The other got shot in a drive-by just a few months ago.

Also, your island that you live on sounds so nice to me. I even
remember an old pic you send of your garden and I saw the
water in in the background.

Anyway.....sounds like a nice place to me.
No doubt, you will agree.

Actually wild caught salmon. I'm jealous. I would have joined you with
the lamb though. I like both foods. I get plenty of seafood here, fresh
caught, but not salmon.

Last week, a friend brought me just 10 fresh-caught oysters.
I opened them, dipped them into a tempura batter, and
deep fried them just for a couple of minutes.

IMO, fresh seafood doesn't get any better than the
oysters cooked that way. No condiments necessary at all
other than a bit of S&P.

The last time I went to the State Park at low tide and
harvested a few myself was also a good eats thing.
I dug a shallow pit in the sand on the beach and built
a small campfire in it. I then harvested a half dozen oysters
while the fire was burning down. Once just hot coals, I put
the oysters on the coals until they opened then ate them. YUM!

The people that go to raw bars and just slurp down oysters are
really missing out on one of nature's best foods, imo.

I had an Australian friend who kept an oyster shucking knife in his car
glovebox. He'd drive to a particular cove, wade out at low tide and
shuck and eat oysters within seconds of gathering them.

Question: "Do you think it's good to slap a woman?"
Sean Connery: (...) "It depends entirely on the circumstances and if
it merits it."

I guess he reads RFC.
