If knowing means having to take care of a parrot, you're probably right about that. My guess is that you have to find somebody willing to take care of your birds after you're gone and that there's probably a organizations around that takes care of orphaned parrots. If you ask me, it would be cheaper/easier to have a kid and have that as a pet. |

In the end the vet said it put an early end to his life span, he enjoyed every moment though. A biiig talker and imitator. One doctor in our town specifically has it in his will that one of his children will take his parrot if he dies before the parrot does, but lots of pet owners have wills that specify that. Now, if the child didn't want the parrot no telling how long the lifespan of the parrot would be. ![]() Cheri |

Having several eases the grief when one passes. I would never have just one. Each time a cat passes I accquire one or two more, usually two litter mates. I find it's no more effort to care for one cat as six. It's also much easier on the cats to have several, they don't suffer as much when one passes, yes they cry for their litter mates. I think it's very cruel to have just one pet. Felines normaly colanize, they are definately not loners. Canines live in packs, they aren't happy living without companions either. Humans are not happy living alone only they will rarely admit it. |

Well yeah, you have the place for it, I don't, and I only want one pet at a time in my house to care for, unless you consider fish to be pets. I like cats, but I prefer dogs. My spoiled dog doesn't really care that much for other dogs at all so she wouldn't be happy with several. I'm am happy you have the barns etc. to make room for many ferals. That's a good thing. Yes, who knows what happened to them before we got them, Annie was a day or so away from being put down when Animal Friends Connection rescued her, she was a walking rack of bones, and had been picked up twice by the pound. We've had her for almost six years and she still gets antsy around other dogs. She's not great with strangers, but really does well with the grandkids etc. Cheri |

The current cat has been with me since a year last December - early this year she changed quite a bit and I feel it is like she is saying 'I know this is my place and I intend to rule, right now!' |

Um, I'm not speaking of the ferals here, I've no control over how many ferals congregate here, that number is constantly in flux... there are three regulars but often more come and go... those never come into the house. I'm speaking of house cats, my house cats never go out. I can't imagine someone living in a house so tiny it can't accommodate 2-3 cats. Cats are very quiet and sleep about 75% of each 24 hours, house cats don't require a lot of space. I've had dogs but find them to be too much work, I no longer feel like having to walk a dog 2-3 times a day and in all sorts of weather. I can't just let them run out on their own, chances are a dog wouldn't return, a preditor would get them. I've never seen dogs running loose here, dogs have no survival skills. The feral cats have excellent survival skills, taught by their feral mothers. House cats have no survival skills either, that's why mine are never let out. |

I've had all sorts of pets, even an outdoor box turtle living in our small city sized yard that disappeared during winter and reappeared in spring. I've had terariums with frogs and salamanders. I've had lots of tropical fish. I even had an ant farm for a while until my mother said the ants go or she goes, she said she couldn't sleep because she felt like ants were crawling on her. I've always had pets. Some people shouldn't have pets, they wouldn't even care for a chia pet. |
