People began using cast iron cookware because a hundred years ago
that's all there was for such a low price and they were passed down,
copper was too pricey and still is for most people, also requires
care. Nowadays many people still can't bring themselves to spend the
bucks for decent stainless steel or even carbon steel if they need
seasoned pans. I gave away all my cast iron cookware some 40 years
ago. Carbon steel skillets are excellent, and don't cost much, even
the Chinese were smart enough to get rid of cast iron woks and go to
carbon steel. Carbon steel lets one cook plenty hot, are seasoned
just like cast iron and using them won't make you feel like you're at
Gold's Gym.

My father in law was in his 90s before he had a cricket problem like that.

I hear that copious amounts of vodka accelerate these processes.

I have a couple of NTTP server accounts too. I don't use it much these days because I mostly use a Chromebook. There's not much point in using an NNTP app with the Chromebook since Google Groups works so well.

As far as you requesting that I change the way I post so you can get your precious line wrapping - that's pure vanity on your part. You could pretty much solve all your problems by simply switching to Google Groups. That Agent client program reminds me of the bad old days of computing. We live in the new world and I shall not desperately cling to the past.

My favourite pans are made by Woll. They are like cast iron but they are
not) Hmm someone else here uses them and can probably tell you more about
them. I just know they are my favourite and I've had them approx 20 years
if memory serves. I have a variety of other pans which I love too, but
they are my favourite.

I was not suggesting you change, merely pointing out that you think
you are so smart and modern when the reality is you're not.

I use the old Netscape newsreader and it let's me
do line-wrap with both outgoing and incoming messages.
I never see his long line problem.

ciron is tried, tested and true over several centuries now, that many
people can't all be wrong. Mine are all so seasoned they are every
bit as non stick as the non stick pans but far more durable and better
cookers.

however, yours are line wrapped, it's a very fundamental thing,
courteous even.

But my prog doesn't have chevrons and I get complained about for that which
is why I sympathise!

As I said, I am more interested in the content.

You should tell him that, he tossed a meaningless, uncalled for insult
garys way. its easter sunday, what was the famous biblical ref to a
mote in the eye? thats a good one for dsi !

===

Why are you fighting Gary's battles? Believe me, he is more than capable of
fighting his own. Are you sure it wasn't just an excuse?

You are doing a lot of this just lately.

As for Mr D He will react but from what I can see, he loves to talk about
cooking and futuristics.

Anyway, it isn't my business and if you keep on with this stuff, I won't be
seeing you either.

I just hate it all. I am done with it. I can see my filter getting fuller
if it continues.

Is anybody cooking???

I don't know if this is indicative of ALL combos, like above, but I
measured both my cheapo rental all-electric stove to my daughter's
cheapo rental all-gas stove with a Fluke thermal couple (TC) meter.

The cheapo electric oven would show as much as a 50F degree swing
betweent off and on. My dauhter's cheapo rental gas oven only showed
a 5-10F swing between off/on.

My preference: Electric stove-top, gas oven. I like electric hobs.
They can achieve a lower temp than gas hobs (IME).

'no chevrons is minor compared to wrapping. when you look at his
posts don't they go off the right hand side of your 'page'? With
Agent which I use it is easy to press a key to do the wrapping, for
all he considers agent so backward!

well i;m not up for taking the blame for someone who got it started!!!

I am not cooking today = great grandchildren coming to visit shortly
then I am going to my daughters for an easter meal. not too much i
can do about cooking currently, last time with left hand inoperative i
tried cooking something that required a chopped up clove or two of
garlic. Unfortunately I wound up with my lovely super sharp knife
cutting a finger to the bone. bloood all over the cast and the cast
stinking of garlic as well so i;m more cautious this time.

now put me in your filter instead of the culprit, dsi.

I did most of it yesterday, potato salad, baked beans ready to go, ham ready
to go, and a one layer cherry chocolate chip cake. Happy Easter Ophelia, and
I hope you feel better soon.

Woll makes aluminum cookware with a kind of nonstick titanium coating.
https://www.amazon.com/Woll-Titanium...=woll+cookware

Piazza cookware is the best I've ever used, unfortunately not easy to
find in the US but being an Italian company you will probably find it
easily in the UK. Years ago Williams Sonoma carried it and at very
good prices but they stopped selling it... I should have bought more
pieces... their Five Star pots and pans are magnificent. Check out
their expansive product catalogue, there's a lot to see, takes a few
minutes to down load:

This is the guy who thinks I should dig up my back yard to bury a huge
propane tank (or just have one sitting behind my bedroom windows - how
trailer park trashy would that be?!) and pay to run gas lines rather
than use my electric stovetop. Sorry, I have no problem using electric.
As long as it works that's really all I care about.

You like your gas cooktop and your electric oven. It works, so what's
the problem? None at all!

soooo, do you always defend the offender ??

You are wasting your time. Why not try and be nice to other posters? It
makes for a much more pleasant experience on line.

At the end of the day, it disappears when you close down

I didn't see anything mean about it. WHEN he buys all these new
technologies and uses them for years and can *prove* they are better,
greater, whatever... Perhaps I'll buy into his claims.

Google Groups sucks. Google is a good search engine, but personally, I
don't want Google to take over the world. When did this turn into a
discussion about NNTP vs. web technology? I thought we were talking
about griddles and stoves.

I don't want to get my food from a freakin' 3-D printer or a Star Trek
food replicator. dsl1 doesn't seem to cook but he does love to yap (and
yap and yap again) about technology. Sorry, I changed that channel a
long time ago. Thought this was about cast iron griddles, not about
promoting Google.

Hopefully you don't think my reasons for finding dsl1's posts specious
are "mean". They simply don't make any sense, especially not in any
food related context.

Jill, when you close down, how much of it upsets you? You have a good life
and I doubt this bothers you so much when you are not here?

Are you worrying about it all night until you log in again???

I just get so sick of it. I am trying to take each day as it comes.

I have enough problems in my life atm.

Up to you, but I won't be joining in. It is all getting too childish for
me.

I really had thought you were back on board with a friendly approach to
everything.

No matter. Your choice.
